thepeanutsparent Kasper was always hot, he was just portrayed as being so sleazy in the early episodes of S1 that it was difficult to even go there. I think it was only once we knew about his childhood that we were meant to start warming to him a bit. I know this because on re-watching S1 from the start I couldn't believe that I hadn't noticed how gorgeous he is! The actor who plays him is a pretty big deal in Denmark afaik, he's been in some critically acclaimed films and does lots of theatre work Didil you're correct, he played the soldier David Gruner in TK2. There is also a photo on his official website where he looks so devastatingly handsome that you may actually forget to breathe for a second or two (or maybe that's just me )
I don't know if Katrine knows that he loves her or not. When they did the flashbacks to their relationship in S1 and showed them breaking up she said something like "I think we love each other but this doesn't work." Whatever it was she said it sounded as if they'd never actually told each other that they loved one another at that point. She couldn't bear the fact that he constantly lied about his family and that mistrust affected the whole relationship. I think it's really difficult to understand what Katrine thinks of him, she seems to swing from regarding him as her closest friend and confidant (she called him to sort everything out when Ole died in the first episode) to acting as if she despises everything he stands for. Her response when he told her he couldn't be in contact with her anymore was odd (you're punishing me for having sex with you) as you would think she would be able to read him and realise that it was because she rejected him. I do think that her lack of 'getting it' with Kasper kind of discredits the fact that she's meant to be this amazing investigative journalist but it does draw parallels with Birgette's story of having a great professional life but failing in her personal life. In any other drama I would be totally confident that the writers would let them get together in the end but given this is Borgen where there seems to be so much personal misery against the backdrop of successful careers I don't want to bet on it.
I felt unbelievably sorry for Birgette in these episodes, the scene at the breakfast table where she was talking to the kids about meeting the new girlfriend was well played. I can recall a spookily similar conversation from my childhood with my Mum and sister when I was about the same age as Laura and I think I reacted exactly the same.
fifitrixibelle If you haven't already guessed I am also obsessed with Borgen (not just because of Kasper!). I find it really difficult to get out of my head for at least a couple of days after I watch it. There is honestly nothing else on TV which has come close for me. My Mother is genuinely perplexed that I don't want her to babysit tomorrow night so that DH can take me out for my birthday! I watch it with my DH and it is slightly uncomfortable viewing, I work in a job which has long unsociable hours but I'm lucky enough to really enjoy it and I have ambitions to continue to progress in my career and ulitimately get a very senior job. Does mean that I'm away from the DD's quite often but my DH takes on more than his fair share of domestic responsibilities, it's okay most of the time although it causes friction from time to time. My DH is pretty vocal about Birgette and we definitely don't agree on her, I know she isn't perfect but I can completely see things from her point of view while my DH has written her off as selfish and egocentric. We've had to agree not to talk about it as I get really cross! Probably because I take the criticism personally although I know it's not meant that way at all. I do find it all a bit depressing though, I think Borgen is a very realistic portrayal of how women struggle to have a successful personal and work life, that no matter how open-minded and liberal men are there are some deeply ingrained gender roles which come through when the pressure is on. Before Birgette became PM she was leader of the party so surely Philip was used to being the main carer and had been for some time. I know that becoming PM would have hugely upped the ante but it seemed to be more about a power thing, he felt emasculated by her position.
Looking forward to tomorrow's double bill again but it's all going so fast!
