Late 30s man shops or brands

Sausagerollz · 05/01/2024 13:42

This one is in good shape (outdoorsy type) and could do with some more bits for dinner/drinks/general weekend wear.

He usually raids the charity shops but there's not much about at the moment so I'd like to get him a top/shirt or two, maybe some jeans.

Looking for something that'll last for more than two washes and doesn't have any big logos on. No 'old man' clothes but nothing too silly trendy.

Any high street shops to particularly consider or brands that'll narrow things down a bit?

Thanks from someone who knows nothing about men's clothes!

Uniqlo and Arket as mentioned. Arket more expensive but sales are good.

Imisssleep2 · 07/01/2024 10:24

T M Lewin are good for shirts

92elv · 07/01/2024 10:27

Uniqlo basics is all you need. Always lasts

NewPapaGuinea · 07/01/2024 11:12

For jumpers have a look at https://outdoorknitwear.com/en/

Try to look past the fairly rubbish photos, the quality and fit in real life is top notch.

Polo shirts, Tommy Hilfiger are decent price, quality and fit, especially the slim fit ones.

Other notable brands for clothes in general are G-Star, Diesel and Alpha Industries.

I always look at men in their 30s wearing Abercrombie or Hollister or jack wills as incredibly tragic. I am 30s and used to wear those brands at 18. It’s embarrassing to be clinging to teenage brands in your 30s 40s. Seems a bit deluded and desperate

Whoa lots of replies to check out thank you! And to whoever asked no he's not into football/other sports.

My DH is same age and extremely fussy. He also seems to ruin clothes within minutes of wearing them. He would wear plain Next basics but wouldn’t be seen dead in the likes of super dry or hollister I’m afraid. We swear by Belstaff now for him for T-shirts and sweatshirts. It’s super expensive but you can catch it in the sales and the t-shirts are excellent quality and last forever, so well worth it. he’s given up buying other branded t-shirts even the likes of Ralph Lauren as they don’t last 5 minutes. For jeans he swears by Calvin Klein. Again he says they last and fit much better. Next ones don’t last him 2 minutes. I get them in Black Friday sales etc or both brands have outlet stores near us. He also likes passenger for fleeces etc. similar to Patagonia but more affordable.

Wittyusername1 · 07/01/2024 21:05

Sounds similar to my other half, as others have mentioned for everyday wear;
Arket
Uniqlo
Zara
Carhartt (although maybe on its way out)

Anything good quality but ideally no logo.

Your DH would probably love finisterre if he’s outdoorsy - this is where I’d go for presents (although they do have a sale atm)

Reiss for ‘best’.

As PP mentioned, Nudie jeans are great! Might seem expensive but they last an age, look and feel great and are worn so frequently - they should be the kind of thing you’d pay more for. Not withstanding the sustainability aspect.

Good thread, I’ve gotten some inspo too :)

parkrunpal · 08/01/2024 10:44

Outdoorsy?

Patagonia
Finisterre
Mountain Equipment here

Late 30s DP's closet has: Uniqlo, COS/Arket,MHL/Margaret Howell, Studio Nicholson, J&M Davidson, Toast, YMC, Folk, Community Clothing, Muji. Sirplus coat. Patagonia outerwear. Too many band tees.
Agree with PP that Hollister/A&F are teenage boy brands, best avoided.

PieAndLattes · 08/01/2024 15:24

Mine likes Crew for shirts and jumpers, Fat Face for T-shirts (the best by a country mile according to him), and Levi’s for jeans. He also likes Weird Fish for their waffled sweatshirty things.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 08/01/2024 20:22

My husband really liked the GAP Jeans we got from the outlet (he normally wears Levi’s), Next has nice men’s stuff too and I haven’t shopped there for a while but River Island used to do nice men’s shirts.

smittenkittennn · 08/01/2024 23:56

DH early 40s and loves Paul Smith. They’ve got a good sale on at the moment as well.

Lorralorr · 09/01/2024 11:18

Uniqlo - cut well, washes well, not expensive, find something you like and buy all the colours

wisebear · 09/01/2024 19:44

Next has lovely men’s clothing - reasonable price. I buy most my family basics, clothes, school uniform etc from there but I also recommend Matalan as they too have a good selection of men’s clothing

Girlmumma1912 · 09/01/2024 21:04

Depending on budget

Crew clothing
Raging bull
Next
Fatface

and worth a try. Tesco

NeverStopTwinkling · 07/01/2024 08:16

I'm sure they're lovely but the prices in the shops you have linked are absolute insanity. My DH wouldn't spend the cost of one sunspel t-shirt in a year.

Absolutely it's just clothes and £89 for a plain black t-shirt - you have to be a complete mug to pay that, or so blinded by designed brands that you don't care - strikes me a fair few on here have other halves who are clearly suffering from 'Emporers New Clothes' issues ;-)

Verv · 10/01/2024 16:11

Finisterre for outdoors & Reiss for tidy casual

AchillesHeelys · 10/01/2024 20:26

DH gets a lot of his clothes from Reiss and they last really well. Also Patagonia for jumpers, coats and more outdoorsy clothes.
