Is there anything good in Next

I am heading to a Next tomorrow and will be the only place to have a peek before I head off on holiday. I don't atually need anything and am absolutly not normally a next person. I like a funky indie chick look and always thought Next was a bit old fashioned. Is there anything I need to look at while I am in there? Just had a quick look online and nothing stood out.

I also look in charity shops, normally. You can sometimes find better stuff in there, than full price new clothes in a regular shop. But my same rules apply. Good cut, natural fabrics etc. I don't buy crap clothes any more. (I also don't spend a lot, I rarely pay full price for anything except rent, bills & basic food).

Haudyourwheesht · 21/07/2021 10:02

Their gym leggings are pretty good. Comfy and stay up well.

Branleuse · 21/07/2021 10:03

i think theyre great for basic summer stuff and some of their perfumes are quite nice. I like some of their dresses and playsuits and they do linen trousers which are nice. I also like their pyjamas.

I wouldnt call it an exciting shop or high fashion, but I can always find something I like and that id get lots of wear from

ExConstance · 21/07/2021 10:03

2 years ago when I was quite fat I bought a few summer clothes from Next to tide me over while I dieted. One dress that was quite nice was extremely popular that summer, I once saw two other people wearing it in the same colour in a pub I was in! One dress just looked rubbish and fell to pieces and the third seemed OK. The swimwear looked OK but was poor quality. The knitwear is unspeakably synthetic and thin. The only things I have bought this year are a couple of cheap fitness items to ring the changes a bit when I go to the gym.
The jeans were always good.
DH buys some of his casual work clothes from them, they look quite good and as he only works 2 days a week last log enough to be reasonable value.

IME most stuff in charity shops now is Primark, for roughly the same price as you'd pay in Primark.
Demortuisnilnisibonum · 21/07/2021 10:07

I quite like some of their cotton and linen tops and dresses.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/07/2021 10:56

I shop in charity shops a lot, but never buy Primark stuff. Recent purchases have included Jigsaw, Phase Eight, Karen Millen, quite a lot cashmere jumpers, and an Armani jacket.

RubyGoat · 21/07/2021 11:44

Lol I wouldn't go near anything from Primark. Neither new or second hand. Cheap crap literally designed to be worn a few times & thrown out.

PaulaPetunia · 21/07/2021 11:45

Only if you are Marty McFly.

LazyMareofEastown · 21/07/2021 11:49

I've never really shopped in Next as have always found it super boring and the few items from there that I've tried on in charity shops or bought from ebay just don't seem to be made for my short and chunky curvy body type.

That said, I bought this dress last week and am loving it. Super flattering (am also an apple) and easy to style in different ways with bright accessories/headscarves/shoes. Lovely soft material too.

RubyGoat · 21/07/2021 12:08

Stuff I've had from charity shops in the past - a pair of unworn designer jeans, a leather blazer with absolutely no signs of wear at all, a 100% wool Boden tank top that someone had evidently shrunk in the wash (it was labelled about age 11 but it fit DD who was about 4 at the time, still beautiful even though it was felted & of course it was now washable!). A vintage cotton dress.

I found a pair of suede designer boots in TKMaxx once, previous season but they would have been £450 full price. Leather soles. Very comfortable. Birkenstocks. Real straw hats. Several bits of clothing for DD - dresses, coats etc. Nice fabric, decent cut, looked far more expensive than the price we paid.

I bought a beautiful red wool crepe dress from Next in 1985. But not much since then. 🙁

nickdrakeslovechild · 21/07/2021 19:57

I went in today and it was god awful, even worse than I thought it would be. I havent been in for years and now my daughter is too old for the kids stuff I dont think I will again. The womens wear was really horrid, both the designs and materials. There was a tshirt that looked ok but the changing rooms were still shut and I wasnt going to take a chance.

I find that their t shirts, swimwear, ankle boots are good. And the menswear staples good for my DS’s. But I mainly use Next for their online delivery service which is excellent, and stock all the brands.

samwitwicky · 21/07/2021 21:00

Nope. It's an overpriced primark.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/07/2021 08:20

I used to get work clothes in there; I've got a fairly old pair of wide leg, drapey black trousers which I can't get rid of because they're so comfortable and soft (and heavy). I have tried to replace them but the material is now so thin it wouldn't keep my bum warm in winter!
Their sizing is so odd as well. I am large busted, yet buy tops in there two sizes smaller than I would anywhere else, and smaller than the trousers. They make the armpit holes too big as well.
One last bit of rant...! All my clothes are black. I want dark basics. I do not want loads of fluorescent orange polyester frilled tea dresses, and it looks like nobody else does either, judging by what's left in the sale.

Uramaki · 22/07/2021 08:50

Their cap sleeve t-shirts are good for basics for playing with the kids/weaning! That's about it.

Artesia · 22/07/2021 08:56

I'm not normally a fan, but a couple of weeks ago i did find the holy grail in there- a white t shirt that's well cut, flattering and best of all NOT SEE THROUGH! I immediately bought a stash of them.

Uramaki · 22/07/2021 08:57

@Artesia Shock do you know which one it is on their website?

Shirleyphallus · 22/07/2021 09:11

I put a thread up not so long ago about what everyone recommended as the best t shirts and the Next cap sleeve T-shirts were the resounding winner

They are great tbf

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 22/07/2021 09:27

I’ve avoided next for a few years now but decided to buy some denim shorts after seeing my friend wearing them and they are fab. So flattering on my plump body. I took the plunge and brought some linen shorts as well and a couple of t shirts and vests.
Not my normal style at all. I’m usually dresses only but glad I took the plunge.

Artesia · 22/07/2021 09:36

Yes this cap sleeve T-shirt is the exact one lots of posters said was the holy grail of T-shirts and they are right, it’s great
