After three winters of wearing cheapo supermarket fleeces v v sad I know I'm going to throw them out because I want to wear something nice for once.

But what do I wear? I liked the fleeces because they kept me warm I could wash them hang on a coat hanger they dried quick and did not require ironing.

Please help, also problem I am only five foot tall I am still 10kg heavier after birth of my daughter that was 2.5 years ago! I need to dress for what I look like now!

Also my middle is like a sack of potatoes have chunky thighs in size 12/14 tops so not much going me can anyone suggest nice tops or should I just hang on to the fleeces?

Janeitebus I think I have the same jacket as Cod - silvery grey, cord fitted from New Look. The fit is small I think - I tried on a jacket on a size 14 hanger and it fitted perfectly ( am normally a 14), got it home and looked at the label to find it was a 16! Oh well. Its really nice, very flattering.

Love that Dotty P's cardi.

Cod is your New Look jacket a sort of silvery grey? If so, was looking at it the other day but they hadn't got it in my size so didn't try on. What's the fit like please?

Jumpers with a really deep v neck and a cami underneath are brilliant - I just got a nice one in Therapy at House of Fraser but would love some others as I got black. Would love a purple one!

What I've ever got from Lands end was sized about right(I'm about 10/12 and S or US size 6 usually is fine)and they do quite a few petite things (though not many jackets). They do totally free, no questions asked returns so if its not right you can either change or refund without much hassle.

Acrylic knitwear is the one thing worse than fleece though! Most of it looks rubbish after a few washes. If your washing machine has a good gentle handwash program then wool and even cashmere will last longer and look and feel better.

The knitwear in topshop does look fab actually - not a shop I usually consider either.

I agree, swap the booze for herbal teas and watch the weight fall off.

Mrs badger your a star. That colour block cardigan is just the sort of thing i would wear and looking at the cut I suspect it will hide all the bad points of my present body shape. And might I add not too pricey
thanks for the tips.

I can feel a shopping trip coming on just as well my little one returns to pre-school on Wednesday!

Land's End run quite generous - remember they are US sizes so a 12 would be an 8.

Agree with everyone here. I ditched the booze 16 months ago and have dropped 2 dress sizes since. I am pleased that you are all talking about cord jackets too - I have a boden one from last autumn and it has had many compliments on the school run.

Make an appointment with John Lewis Fashion advisers. They are fabbo and not at all scary, will listen to what you need and point you in the right direction. They also know which brands/designers come up the right shape for your body type, and will tell you which ones to avoid.

Perfect for people who hate shopping. Clearly not bargain basement cheap, but better to spend £80 on a perfect pair of trousers that you wear loads for two or three winters than £30 on a not-quite right pair that get worn 10 times and then sent to oxfam.

thanks for the tips mrs badger.

The fleeces i have are those really thin ones which I were inside rather than a cover up to go out in.

Just want something to me look like a sexy (not tarty) well groomed women!!!! ha and that requires not much ironing. Its been so long since I bought any serious clothes my dh gets gross with me. I,ve even been out with a few hundred pounds to blow and come back with nothing.

I just seem to use the excuse thatI need something practical and why spend loads on somwthing that is going to get messed up with the day to day chores of looking after a toddler.

Maybe if I splashed on something decent it might change my perspective on things. Hate to make an expensive mistake though

Good idea to use a smaller plate might try that and eat slower!!! to make up for less food.
