My hair is very thin, very fine. I can't have a fringe. It won't lie flat. The sides won't lie straight - it sticks up in whispy bits. It can't go longer, it looks witchy. I haven't had much success with it shorter. I don't have the time to go to the hairdresser regularly, plus I really have a fear of hairdressers akin to he dentist.

It's dyed but lots of gray underneath.i can't decide if I should go gray or continue to dye. It is so fine and flyaway. And I can't get any volume in it. Plus at the front there are many teeny baby hairs which never grow longer. I've left some of my face in the picture, so you can get an idea - I look so old and horrible, and my awful hair is just exacerbating the overall horrid lookSad

Is there any cut or colour or treatment anyone can suggest? I'm really desperate.

Oh Op I totally get you. I have fine wispy hair that I hate aswell. I get some highlights and lowlights done, at the same time, just from time to time.
My hair often look slike it doesn't have a style. I really hate it. BUt when I leave the hairdressers, after a cut and colur, and a blow dry, it looks fab. But, I cant maintain it.

They use a mesh and pull what hair you have through, and then see the hair system into the mesh.

The pics are of my hair in the mesh, and the system before it was sewn in.

You can then have extra panels of hair sewn in at the sides to thicken it up

It doesn't grow, but your hair underneath grows but you can't see that. Have a look on Hairsolved website, it's shows how they do it. You can have it styled as long or short as you want Smile

I will find a picture of my system before it was fitted, as I had roots dyed on it to make it look more natural and realistic

It was £1300 Blush but it lasts for 2 years and is just like normal hair, I go swimming etc and you can't tell it's not real.

It's took a while to get used to styling it, but I will never go back to not having it now.

There is another lady on mumsnet that also has a hair system, and she advised me when I was getting mine Smile

@onefortheroadplease, you look fabulous, amazing, what a difference it makes. I bet you feel beautiful every day now, although I'm sure it must have been incredibly expensive.

Whoops posted too soon, cause I dye it myself I never have big roots which I think doesn't help your confidence, I use bleach London white toner to tone it which is essential for blonde, dying it at home and getting a brassy blonde, is why it never looks as good as the hairdresser as they will tone it for you.

Do it yourself I say !

I hate going to salons and I cut my own hair and dye it, I use this

www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/naturtint-permanent-hair-colour-10a-light-ash-blonde-60072898

And I follow YouTube videos to cut my hair to shoulder length with good hair dressing siscors

I have a friend who uses watermans which has worked for her.
I’m losing a lot of my hair post-natal, (it was fine already and is very wispy/frizzy) and found that dying it with the henna dyes from Lush (full disclosure I did work for them before baby, but there are several products I will always use) the dye coats the hair rather than penetrating it, so adds thickness, and after multiple uses really adds some weight to the hair. Only thing is the colour, they’re red-warm brown-or black.

OP I think you need a feminine pixie cut like sharon stone's here. I've also chosen her as she has a similar face shape to you.

Also product can transform fine hair. I found out about volumising powder on here and now use it every day. It gives me thick (ish!) hair that stays where I put it! You only need a tiny bit. I use the Schwarzkopf Got2Be one but there are several to try. Then I use a wax or putty to smooth the ends.

I have the same fringe problem as you, and my solution is to have it short and swept to the side as in the sharon pic.

Also a colour will also bulk up your hair and make it shiny, so it's worth doing even if you don't want a big colour change.

I struggle with going to the hairdressers, but I have a nice one at the moment. I just keep changing until I find someone who understands me. One tip is to go in and ask to have a brief chat about your hair when not actually having it cut. So you can explain, get their advice and see if you like them, without being stuck having to go through with it.

I'd love a wig, but I'd be afraid of looking "wiggy". I'd want a wig like my own Hair, only thicker and perhaps a bit longer..... Hmm

That’s pretty much what a hair system is @buggerthebotox, but you can’t tell once it’s on. My pictures on the previous page show it Smile

Wigs that are sewn on? Now you're talking....

Report
lunabear1 · 31/10/2017 20:31

Probably a last resort but you can actually get full head wigs that are sewn on that look like your own hair and are completely secure. This is a company local to me that does it (i'm not associated with them in any way just giving an example of what i mean) www.facebook.com/pg/clinicofconfidence/photos/?ref=page_internal - i'm sure you could find someone close to you if you felt you had no other option x

V. Similar probs here, recently went back to my signature pixie crop and allowed the salt and pepper to shine through. I have so many compliments about the colour! Give up on the damaging colouring and go short, you wont regret it, but make sure you pay for a really good stylist. I paid £60 and was so nervuous I cried on my stylist. Felt daft but made her determined to do a really good job.

Oneforthe that's an amazing transformation, it looks great.

OP - I have very fine hair, although a lot of it, but I would say a pixie cut wouldn't work as it wouldn't lie right, and nor would the front being longer than the back as the front is generally thinner than the back.
Something that works well for me in controlling the wayward directions of my hair is a brazillian blow dry on it. I get the one off amazon and do it myself around every two months.
