Those riding boots of Kate's

So I've coveted those Penelope Chilvers boots Kate M wears for ages. Is there a good quality alternative I can look at as I assume they are wildly overpriced due to the publicity?

Looking for a flat, comfortable knee high boot in brown (doesn't have to be very dark, but not tan). Which will look nice in the pub but also out and about walking in muddy puddles....

Still waiting for mine. I chased them and it sounds like they ran out of stock because everyone on Mumsnet is buying them and had to replenish stock. They've now been shipped though so should arrive next week.

They took around 5 days to arrive. I'd say the fit is generous. I'm about a 5 1/2 and ordered a 38 and they fit nicely, even with a thickish sock on. If you're in-between sizes, I'd say size down. One thing I would say though is that they come up very high on the leg - I'm 5'7 & they are literally just underneath my knees. If you weren't as tall, or just generally have shorter legs, you might struggle with them.

I love my Dubarry Galways as previously mentioned.

I also really love my fairfax and favour boots. Spanish riding boots with interchangable tassels. I got navy blue. Literally go with anything. Worth a look.

I've had a confirmation email

I ordered them on the Friday afternoon and they came the following Wednesday. Really quick. Email them, I never had a confirmation email from them, so asked if they'd received the order, they were very good.

Monkey how long did they take to arrive. I ordered some and they are still not here (I ordered the weekend before last)

Mine are the brown Bota Kate Cuero Engrasado.. They're taking a bit to wear in, but I love them.

aacissej any photos? How long did they take to arrive?

What is the fit like? Are they generous?

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this thread! I've been lusting after the Penelope Chilvers boots for ages, but could never justify the price tag. I ordered the Boto Kates which arrived today and I am in love! Such beautiful quality. I actually ordered them to wear to work as I work at a stately home, and am so excited to wear them! Thank you again for the links & comments about sizes etc.

For wide of calf and robust boots, I find Tuffa the best.

...I go though a pair of country boots every 2 years - they get daily abuse.

Had a pair of kanyons recently and they leaked - badly! Dublins are being slow to break in currently, wish I had gone for another pair of Tuffas.

...no one mentioned fairfax and favour.

Georgeous colours.

Or did you buy the Bota Kate Cuero Engrasado Monkeyfeet12 ?

So many similar but slightly different styles - I'm confused!

Right I've gone a bit mad and ordered the Bota Kate (rough sole) in brown and the Bota Kate Urbana (smooth sole).

The Bota Kate Urbana (smooth sole) looks black online but in Monkey12 's pictures above they look brown? Can anyone confirm what colour the Bota Kate Urbana (smooth soles) are?

50Bales I also ride so am planning on using mine for riding as well as general wear

Did anyone get them in black by any chance?

Thanks Pasithea - you're damn right, I'm going nowhere near a horse, eeeuuughhh (though I am a country-living, dog-walking type). Thanks for the waxing tips - am off to instruct my servant!

Ok you lot the secret to the calf fitting is to wear them round the house with the zip half way up and gradually over two or three wears inch the zip up slowly. This also helps the leather stretch without creasing.

You wax them thoroughly as soon as you get them the day before you wear them you keep them with boot trees in them and thoroughly clean and wax them after getting wet or dirty. Hope this helps.

Ha ha 50BALES. These city types love our riding boots but god forbid if they get a bit muddy never mind horseshit and RIDING INTHEM Shock.

Well I have no intention of going anywhere near a horse, boots or no boots.
The profiled soles look better for dealing with winter weather.

Are you happy riding in them? I prefer a flat sole

Report
Monkeyfeet12 · 25/10/2016 22:05

I'm 5'7 and when I go up or down stairs I can feel them in the back of my knee. (I'm sure when the leather gives they won't do this!)

I am 5'9" and they are knee height on me.

Report
CardiCorgi · 25/10/2016 21:52

How tall are any of you? I've measured my scrawny calves and I think that the fit round them will be fine, but I'm only 5'3" so I'm wondering how tall they would be.

Just to confirm that mine have already loosened off slightly with a tiny bit of wear. Have no doubt they were just stiff out of the box. Will do the waxing this weekend.

I'm so delighted with them and defo saw some mums eyeing them up at the gates yesterday!!
