Help me look like this woman I saw in the street!

Trudging along in the rain the other day in flat boots, jeans, and sensible knee length waterproof school run type coat.

Then this woman hoved into view looking fabulous with her bob in a beany hat, egg shaped woolen coat, midi length flared skirt poking out of the bottom of it, woollen tights and ankle boots. She looked like she should be in focus at the front of a slow motion shot whilst the background blurred out and a Jacques Brel soundtrack played. Angry

She looked fab, everything was coordinated in terms of colour, she looked really cosy but actually fucking stylish, rather than me galumphing along.

So, I've decided enough with the jeans. I want to look feminine, chic, perhaps a little boho. Not like I've just raided the rails of White Stuff or Fat Face. I used to be so much braver with clothes but now I'm mid 40s, short and a bit fat, so this could be a challenge. I'm aware an egg coat would make me look like an actual egg. And I don't want to be the sort of middle aged woman who puts in pink highlights and wears zebra print DMs because they're "fun".

Any suggestions of where to get the type of clothes I'm on about? I don't mean necessarily copies of hers, it's more about being more original and somehow, oh I don't know, lovely.

I like the hippy sleeves! Utterly beyond redemption.

I suppose it's got a hint of Stevie Nicks.... I would love to be one of those crafty types who can take something and adapt it A-team style using just some wonder web and cable ties Grin There's an outfit there somewhere.

I did the John lewis style edit thing. The clothes it recommended were:
Tina Bacon. By the hog load.
lacy.
sludge brown, pastel pink, grey or white.
Skinny jeans.

none if which really suit me. I have tried in the past. Pah.

Bloody hell - I have obsessed over coveted that burgundy coat upthread for a few days now and decided that a girl can never have too many coats, despite what her miserly Scrooge of a DH says. Clicked on the link to buy it and they are sold out Shock Sad Sad Sad Chocolate

I am now on the look out for a burgundy/dark berry coloured funnel coat if anyone comes across one

My daughter has suggested this shop for me as I used to wear quite similar (albeit) old fashioned types of clothing back when I was in my prime.

I did the John Lewis style edit and got these. These dresses are not my style at all. Too dark for starters.

I am bombarded twice a year by random catalogues and always get sent these two which have a kind of Stevie-Nicks-all-grown-up vibe:

www.wraplondon.co.uk
www.poetryfashion.co.uk

They look as if they have the same parent company and I guess Poetry is the big sister. The prices are a bit Eeek and I don't know anything about the quality.

Sadly it's all a bit too wafty for me personally - my body is wafty enough all on its own. But it might work for some of you.

I was in a "vintage" charity shop today and a dress caught my eye. Then I saw the label - it was a Gina Grin. Maybe the JL edit knows me better than I know myself.

Nonny - spent an insomniac night rtft - thanks for the laughs. I'm a 50 something old bag, carrying too much weight --particularly in the bottom department.
I'm with the 'good coat can hide a multitude of sins' brigade. In fact I'm renowned for my vast collection of macs, coats and jackets cos I never take them off. I wanted my user name to be all fur coat and no knickers, but sadly it was taken.
Was in our JL today and I searched high and low for La Bacon pieces but couldn't see any. Need to know what I'm not looking for.
Would def buy from Gone to the Dogs. I could be your coat buyer if the commission was right
PS - vair, vair scared to do the edit test. Lots of shaken ladies here.
