Can you get hair dye that only lasts a week or two and can go over dyed blonde?

I have dyed blonde hair and am due to go on leave for just under two weeks. I have always wanted bright red or blue or purple hair but my work have been less than enthusiastic about it. Apparently it doesn't look professional! (I'm an HCP so they might have a point...)

However, I am wondering whether there is anything I can use for the time I am away (13 days off in a row) which I can get completely gone and back to normal by the time I get back.

The holiday will be a UK seaside one, so it would need to be more than a wash-in, wash-out one otherwise it we will be gone on the first day!

Does anyone have any ideas? I thought about the XXL semi-permanent ones but met someone who uses it and she said you need to bleach it back out again after it fades, which takes about 3 weeks. I can't really afford to do anything that requires a salon, it needs to be a home kit ideally.

I use directions, washes out pretty easily with head and shoulder or washing up liquid

I redid mine this morning, cerise and lilac mixed with white conditioner to make it pastel. I have bleached hair.

Can you get hair dye that only lasts a week or two and can go over dyed blonde?

bleach london from boots, should wash out in about a week

Dd uses the bleach colours (available from boots)

You can mix them with any white conditioner if the colour is too bright -they wash out in around 6-8 washes which if you are a grungy teen means they last months so should be gone in a fortnight, if not then using a purple shampoo should restore your blonde

Thanks snow, that's really useful. My hair is very porous so it might be harder to get out, hmm....

Perhaps I could put a few blocks of colour at the ends to start with, kind of like a dip dye, and then twist it up into a bun for work?

If I have pastel blue hair, I only wash it every 4-5 days, so it lasts about 4 weeks.

So about 6 or 7 hair washes.

It doesn't leave a residue on my hair, but my hairdresser said my hair was very dye resistant. I've just had it rebleached, with turns it a light yellow. She then did it lilac, but it just cancelled out the yellow and left no trace of lilac at all.

I have a peroxide pixie and have used Bleach London to dye it pastel pink and lilac (not together). It lasted about 4 days, with being washed every other day. I found my hair held on to the purple tone more, and cancelled out the brassiness similar to a silver shampoo.

I found that blue lasted the longest time on my hair, I used to use a directions purple (can't remember the name) but it was blue toned so faded to blue and then a minty green.

Pastel pink faded pretty quick, sometimes I use directions lavender which is a lovely purple colour which then fades into pink then washes out.

On mine once it has faded it goes back to my normal colour but I have heard about it properly staining others hair.

So Snow - how long would you say a blue or purple would last if I mixed it with conditioner?

I usually wash it every other day, but likely to only be washing about twice for the holiday week as there won't be a shower. I could wash it a couple of times a day in the 2 days I am back home and before I go back to work if needed though!

Have you tried the blues? I am rather partial to the Atlantic blue in particular. Possibly doing a 4 or 5 large streaks rather than the whole head, at least until I know how it takes on my hair.

And, most importantly really, when it does wash out is it completely gone? Leaving your hair exactly as it was before you started? Or do you need to re-dye it the blonde again?

If I want a Patel colour on my bleached hair I mix the Directions colour with some white conditioner. You don't need much really. Just leave on for 20 mins and rinse out.

The colour doesn't last too long - but it depends on how often you wash your hair Smile

Thanks folks. I'm in the South West so nowhere near that salon spotty but thank you anyway. Smile

My hair is pretty porous actually - in good condition, considering I have been permanently dying it for the last 25 years, and it does take colour well.

Blue sounds promising and I will def check out the link on temporary and cool aid etc. Thanks all!

As a teenager used to dye my hair with food colouring. It lasted a few days. My hair was naturally post it note coloured then.

Blue tones are easiest to get out of hair as they do not involve any kind of natural pigment.
You could try pastel blue by mixing half a pot of blue directions of your choice with half a pot of directions toner.

However it depends how light your hair is already as to how it would take.

Wella do a semi permanent salon colour designed to wash right out, if your in Nottingham, I can highly recommend Dillon and Lee hair salon opposite Dogma!

My friends dd dyed her blonde hair with a soft drink in the school holidays. I have a feeling it was a powder. I'll have a quick Google.

It depends how porous your hair is, wash out colours can still stick around for months on porous hair.

As pp suggested try bleach London, they do some really pretty pastel shades light enough that you should be able to shampoo it out in time for going back to work.

Bleach London, directions, crazy colour are all temporary colours and if you go for the pastel colours they do wash out quick.

I think even Loreal do a pastel pink and a lilac now.

Superdrug Colour effects?

My hair is dyed (light chestnut with blonde highlights)
I have a bottle of Colour effects but I haven't actually used it because I fear it may be orange.
I bought it before I went lighter but forgot about it.

Ah I see hair chalk washes out. Not great for a beach holiday then - I kinda want the hair to be the same coming out of the sea as when I go in! Grin

I have been red a lot before, the XXL 35 red one, and you're right Derek it takes flipping ages to come out! I don't really want that again, I want something for a week or two. Purple or blue or something really silly that won't suit me and will make me look like I'm trying to be a decade or two younger than I am.

Why doesn't it exist!?!?!
