I need some jeans, please help a clueless person look nice!

I'm not really a skinny jeans person - I miss the days of flares (though I do still have a pair, I'm aware they're hopelessly outdated so can't wear them out) and usually live in skirts and dresses. However, now my boy's a toddler I really do need some jeans for more active stuff. But I'm completely clueless!

I'm 29, so want to look reasonably young and fashionable. I wore New Look superskinnies over the winter which looked great with boots and big jumpers but are totally the wrong shape on me if I try to wear them with shoes and lighter tops. I'm 5'2" and a size 10 but a chubby one - I'm top-heavy, quite big arms and boobs and bigger middle than bum so it's tricky to get jeans that don't make me look like a weird shape, like I kind of taper down.

I also don't have an opportunity to go out trying on many many pairs, and was planning to order two or three online and send back any that didn't fit. I've had a little look in the usual places - I like Oasis, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins usually, but am open to suggestions - and saw these ones which I think look like the kind of thing I'm after:

www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/clothing-203535/jeans-203564/indigo-slim-fit-boyfriend-jean-2750522?bi=1&ps=200

But neither are available in my size. I think the kind of look I'm after is skinny jeans (but not painted on, some give), a loose-ish top and ballet flats.

Please help!

Try Uniqlo. They do straight leg jeans and they are quite high waisted. Order a few sizes to which fits the best. I'd usually describe myself as a 12 but I can fit into their 26 easily. For you, I'd suggest ordering a 24 and 25 to see how they work

Oh don't get me started on jeans!

I'm also a size 10, slim, but an awkward shape I think. I'm naturally high waisted. I have hips, but very narrow thighs with a small bum. It makes getting a decent fitting pair of jeans, well trousers in general really, almost impossible to find.

So unfortunately no advice, but will be watching this thread with interest.

Just a word of caution on GAP and Next jeans. I don't think it's just me who finds that after a few hours they stretch. I have some from both shops and the Next ones in particular, I can pull down with out undoing them after a day. They've been a total waste of money. For staying in shape-ness Oasis are my absolute favourites but I don't know if they do straights.

Oh, Cointreau, how is the fit? I'm kind of a large 10 at the moment so not sure whether to go for a 12 instead.

Yay, thanks everyone! Some really good ideas here, I like the Mango pair a lot (and only £30!) and they have them in my size too - annoyingly some of the others are out of stock in my size so I can't get them to try. Humph. Couple of votes for Next and I work near one so might go at lunchtime and try some on.

(Sorry, I totally ignored that you wanted straight cut....)

I got nice straight cut jeans from next, not too tight and look good with heels/flats

If Oasis still do their scarlet jeans try them, they're super flattering. New look do a £10 pair of boot cut jeans which are worth trying and cheap enough to chalk up to experience if they don't suit you!

At the end of the day though, wear what you are comfy in - that's the most important thing!

I got some Levi classic rise demi curve slim jeans recently and they are the most flattering pair of jeans I own. I don't suit skinny jeans, and the slim cut looks much more flattering on me.

I bought them at the Levi outlet so they weren't as expensive.

What about Gap? They have loads of different styles and you can order online.

I just bought some new jeans from Next. I'm apple shaped and these come up to my waist so don't roll down and I don't spill over the top of them. They are also a great fit to my waist at the back so I'm not always pulling them up.

I'm 5'3" and got regular length which are fine, but probably not "ankle" length as on the model!

go for a straight leg rather than skinny so you dont get that carrot look

Mango have some nice jeans which are "relaxed" skinny - I think they are called Alice.
