I measure 30 under band and I'm average height and build - I'm 5' 5" and slimish build . So I can see that a smaller woman who is very slim could easily measure 4 inches less than me . Not remotely anorexic

I'm a 30G or GG and look curvy but far from huge . My breasts would fit into a 28GG or H and a 26 J or K. Perfectly normal IMHO.

A 26F would look quite sexy, I should imagine. I wear 36D and sometimes feel like I've got udders instead of breasts.

okay so as per this measuring guide I am a 28 under bust and 32 across the bust, put this into a bra size calculator and it says I am a 32d, I am 5ft4 and about a size 6-8, I recently got told at a shop I would have to order in my bras from china as they reckon I was a 26c, I normally wear a 30a or 32b, I don't know what size I am and in desperate need of help, what do you ladies think. should I try and get a 32d bra and see if it fits or not

Thanks again statistically. That does explain the awful backache and posture I've had. I had no idea I'd gone up that much. Really hadn't anticipated needing an e or f as I'm very petite to look at. I guess I'm off to the shops!

Oh and thanks to OP for highlighting this. I have signed up and remain hopeful. I went to Bravissimo in Covent Garden and wasn't wowed by their service (though tbf it was the end of one of those stupidly hot days a few weeks ago).

any advice - I'm currently bursting out of my 28Ds, they don't cover my nipples anymore. . Should I go up a cup size?

I had terrible experiences buying maternity bras in my last pg. M&S were the worst. When I asked for a 28D/DD I got a sniffy 'no dear we don't do anything that small in nursing, here this might fit". It was a 32C. Mothercare were slightly better but could only offer a 32D and were very apologetic about it as they measured me and saw I was smaller than what they had.

I would point out that for years I wore 32 band bras (hardly anyone made 30 and under bands).

When I went to Bravissimo and got my first 28 band bra and proper cup size I was amazed. The difference it makes to clothes, posture and breasts to have a well fitting bra is amazing. Their fitters are very good, some vary in terms of what bra you'd like but they are thorough and can suggest a few options.

Figleaves online are amazing too, bought 2 bras and bikinis with them and work great and fit well, I spoke to a lady over the phone and she was very knowledgeable about fit of bras and styles!

Also look for blogs like www.investinyourchest.com etc - the ladies at IIYC are younger, but review bras/bikinis all the newest ranges and styles.

more and more women are waking up to narrow back eg 28 and under bands and big bust/cup size (even though you may not look huge) and brands are following suit.

DD (14) is a 26/28DD. It is incredibly difficult to find non glamour model type bra's in that size - even in teen ranges you are lucky to find a 30 back and buying bikini's is a whole other nightmare.

When a bit slimmer, I was a 28 back and a JJ cup. It's completely natural. I was always norky but pregnancy made them grow and they've gone down. Thanks for considering me a freak (hmm face).

Sounds good that there is progress with smaller back sizes. I'm quite tall and medium build and I need a 30 back size and there are lots of women/young girls with a much slimmer build than me and you almost never see anything less than a 30 back - I was looking at bras in New Look last week and out of curiosity looked at what was on offer in the young teenage range - the smallest back size was 30 FFS.

If you have the symptoms of a bad bra.....

What symptoms do you have? A 34E is probably feeling tight because there is insufficient cup space. Put a 34E on, and SCOOP (see below). I bet you have quad boob. Now put the 34E on back to front so the cups don't affect the back fit. See how far you can pull it

Scooping

Pop bra on by leaning forward and dropping your boobs in to the cups. Now, stand side on to a mirror. Put left hand inside right cup, reach right round towards the strap at the back. All the flesh/lumps/bumps in your armpits, around your backstrap etc? That all needs to go in to the cup, so haul it forward. Repeat on the other side.

Hello! No humble pie eating required. What are your actual measurements? If you scoop whilst wearing your current bra, do you get overspill? If you put the bra on back to front, how far can you pull away from your body?

A 32GG is only 2 cups bigger than your 36E. A smaller band will feel fine as long as the cups are big enough. That's why you should try a band back to front first to gauge the fit without confusing the issue with the cups!

OK. I am here with a face stuffed full of humble pie.

I have measured as per Sorrel's link, and I have read the explanation of cup size in relation to back size as per her link to that blog, which explains it all perfectly even though I don't think those two models look like their boobs are proportionally big enough in relation to their torsos to be D cups and I am apparently not the 36 E I currently wear but a 32/34 GG.

The thing is, when I go bra shopping I do know better than to just go by one size, I try on all sorts, and if the band feels too tight then it's too tight, and if the cups feel too big they are too big. And at the moment I vary between a 34 E and a 36 E. Very occasionally an F cup fits better, but it depends on the bra.

So I'm none the wiser really. I do suffer from a lot of the symptoms listed in the list of 'signs of the wrong bra' but I'm fairly convinced I'm wearing pretty much the right size. I really can't see a 32 band being okay - I think it would cut off my blood supply and make fat squidge out everywhere.

I will go into town and try on a 32 GG tomorrow and report back.

There are lots of cheap M&S & Debenhams bras on eBay. I helped my SiL fit her 11 yr old DD a couple of weeks ago. I doubt if she's any bigger than your DD and she needed a 28DD.
