City walking shoes

We're going to be quite a lot of trekking around cities in the uk this summer and I'm looking for a lace up shoe to go with crops etc. I dont want a trainer or a brogue (got some, love them but not sure I can walk more than a couple of hours in them as they are a bit narrow for me). Was looking at Clarks and Ecco

Are they ok or a bit mumsy? I'm heading for 40 but trying to resist Grin

I am a comfy shoe fiend, I am not going to tell you to get a pair of heels but PLEASE for the love of all that's holy don't get anything in those "I'm mad, me" colours. If you think a gran might describe them as "snazzy", don't buy them! Clarks and Ecco do plenty of plain, classic things.

I have these, very comfy.

Unstructured things.

Like the shoe-yness (is that a word?) of the leather of these.

NO TO THE VILE STRAP THINGS

Nehru · 03/05/2013 06:14

Op. do you really need these shoes? When I go to London I just wear normal shoes.

Bunbaker · 03/05/2013 06:45

I'm not the OP, but if I am on my feet sightseeing all day I need to have comfortable shoes. I wore ballet flats yesterday and my feet were aching at the end of the day. Normal ballet flats just don't support my feet sufficiently.

peggyblackett · 03/05/2013 06:54

Those shoes ARE mumsy (to power of 100). Don't do it. Frumperama

At least you're a standard footsize ie under an eight.
Try getting comfy when you are a 9 to 10 and narrow.

I have tried some hellish ones on recently.

Just ordered a few pairs of Superga.

nellyjelly · 03/05/2013 07:10

Superga are just pumps though and not supportive. I would wear trainers if doing alot of walking in a city. New balance are fairly cool.

I don't have normal shoes. I live in Asia so wear havaianas or sandals with a heel from Zara daily (don't like fitflops).

Haven't seen anything at all that I would buy except Supergas and I don't think they will work (not supportive enough and not waterproof). Will stick with my minimal nikes for the moment.

Thanks again for suggestions

Nehru, I love those nikes. Am going to check them out this weekend.

I think I've found a solution. They arrived yesterday, super comfy, look good with crops and rolled chinos, leather and breathable, good support. Thanks everyone, esp cremolafoam who posted the link to Art Company
