City walking shoes

We're going to be quite a lot of trekking around cities in the uk this summer and I'm looking for a lace up shoe to go with crops etc. I dont want a trainer or a brogue (got some, love them but not sure I can walk more than a couple of hours in them as they are a bit narrow for me). Was looking at Clarks and Ecco

Are they ok or a bit mumsy? I'm heading for 40 but trying to resist Grin

I think I've found a solution. They arrived yesterday, super comfy, look good with crops and rolled chinos, leather and breathable, good support. Thanks everyone, esp cremolafoam who posted the link to Art Company

Nehru, I love those nikes. Am going to check them out this weekend.

I don't have normal shoes. I live in Asia so wear havaianas or sandals with a heel from Zara daily (don't like fitflops).

Haven't seen anything at all that I would buy except Supergas and I don't think they will work (not supportive enough and not waterproof). Will stick with my minimal nikes for the moment.

Thanks again for suggestions

Superga are just pumps though and not supportive. I would wear trainers if doing alot of walking in a city. New balance are fairly cool.

At least you're a standard footsize ie under an eight.
Try getting comfy when you are a 9 to 10 and narrow.

I have tried some hellish ones on recently.

Just ordered a few pairs of Superga.

Those shoes ARE mumsy (to power of 100). Don't do it. Frumperama

I'm not the OP, but if I am on my feet sightseeing all day I need to have comfortable shoes. I wore ballet flats yesterday and my feet were aching at the end of the day. Normal ballet flats just don't support my feet sufficiently.

Op. do you really need these shoes? When I go to London I just wear normal shoes.

I am a comfy shoe fiend, I am not going to tell you to get a pair of heels but PLEASE for the love of all that's holy don't get anything in those "I'm mad, me" colours. If you think a gran might describe them as "snazzy", don't buy them! Clarks and Ecco do plenty of plain, classic things.

I have these, very comfy.

Unstructured things.

Like the shoe-yness (is that a word?) of the leather of these.

Can I recommend this site for a bit if euro-style?

I have tried on the ballet flats in that range and they aren't very comfortable and certainly not suitable for spending a lot of time in walking around sightseeing.

I have these and the leather is ridiculously soft - very comfortable to walk around in, and I wear with jeans, 7/8 trousers, rolled chinos etc. If the weather holds this weekend I intend to try them with bare legs and a knee length denim belted dress.

They have a hot pink colour if you're bolder than me, and they do a ballet flat style which is the same leather.

I like the look of those. I tried the Sketchers Go Walk on again today, but at £46 - £50 a pair depending on where you buy them it is a huge amount of money for what are really just plimsolls. Even so they are simply the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever tried.

Keds might suit a slim ankle/leg better ?

Thanks Gilly - will have a look. But I hate the look of them - they look like Emo shoes to me! :) Also, I have very skinny ankles and calves, so can tend to look a bit childish/golf club-esque.

Remus I find the Supergas much more supportive than Converse, sole is far thicker. I will no not never wear a Cornish pastie on me feet

And will be taking Wellies of course....

I would try merrell half sandal half trainer. They have a closed solid toe and a Velcro strap but are mostly mesh. I have them in a sage colour from a couple of years back and they go with most things. I will be wearing them to Glastonbury this year (first timer at 41!)

I vote for FlipFlop trainers too. They took me round New York and Florida theme parks last year and I have really bad problems with my legs and ankles following an accident. They were bliss.

I am over 50 and loathe those Mary Janes.

This type of topic is a popular one - comfy stylish shoes. There is a market for them so why haven't any of the shoe manufacturers realised it yet?
