Shellac seems to have ruined my nails

I had shellac on for a total of 6 weeks or so, bit had to have it taken off as my nails have gone really weak and brittle. 2 have split really far down, and I can't cut them short enough to cut it out. I loved shellac bit am wary of having it done again if it leaves nails in such a mess, my nails are normally naturally long and quite strong. Anyone else had problems after shellac or is it just me?

Can't wait for them to come on Boots in next couple of weeks - am definitely getting Pink Daisy & Mauve Maven for starters

can you really use olive oil?

My nails were not good after Shellac too. They were soaked of in foils in the salon.

I didn't like my hands under the UV lamps either. Not sure how strong they are but i have a history of skin cancer.

Sailorsgal - I felt the same with UV - just not sure.

Happy to use the LED lamp though as no UVA/UVB rays

To be fair 2-3 mins under a UV lamp is same as 10 mins in the average british sun, and if you are worried, could use sunblock
(just to give a balanced view - but I'm sticking to LED)

My nails are bendy and weak and flake. I have tried everything over many years. Am not looking for particularly long nails just strong and thick like my hair.
Last year,after much hype, I decided to try Shellac for a two week holiday abroad.was told it would last 3 weeks.it didn't.looked rubbish after 3 days. Have since tried Jellish and the Jessica one and Shellac again.trashed my rubbish nails. I have been using OPI nail envy since end Fedruary. My nails are still weak,bendy and flake.
Just accepting that as long as my nails are short and neat they look ok with the occasional varnish.

Drywhite (mmm - might have to have a glass of that now...) have you tried nail supplements and cuticle oil?
