Gutted - legs too fat for new boots

Other than to lose weight, what can I do?!? Have just bought these biker boots as I wanted a really nice pair that will last forever.

They have just arrvied and are beautiful and really comfortable on my foot and i LOVE them. But I have short stumpy legs and well developed calf muscles and they just hit my calf at the wrong spot. They are about half an inch in width from being okay (or if I was an inch taller they'd be fine too!). Am I deluded in keeping them and hoping they stretch? They're not uncomfortable on my calf but there is a bit of a silly bulge of fat muscle where they dig in. I suppose I could wear them more slouched once the leather loosens up.

Would a cobbler be able to help? Normally I just admit defeat and send them back but I luff them. Sad

Alternatively, if anyone can find an alternate pair of lovely lovely black biker boots that will fit my thunderous legs, that would also be great.

I had been searching for ages for some calf length boots but noe seemed to fit due to my chunky calfs, due to cycling and using an industrial machine for years. I eventually got some from Evans .

I want some new wellies and I think will have to go for the short version

Right, have just got the shorter ones and they are perfect! Further up the leg than I thought (so can easily wear socks with them). They stop just below the fat bit of my calf! Hooray! Plus I can get my hand into the gap at the top which means I might even get away with wearing them with jeggings/skinny jeans, which would be great. Not quite as nice as the longer moleskin versions as they are all leather but the leather is good quality - thick but supple. Nice buckle detail etc etc. So short of leg, I recommend them to you.

i LOVE your boots, i am now trying to justify buying myself a pair.

i think your issue is not to do with fat legs but to do with being a shortarse. i too am a shortarse, so knee boots end up flapping around above my knees, and mid calf boots such as your new biker boots often end up sitting too high on the leg, hence why they are hitting the widest part of your calf. whereas on a taller person even if they had exactly the same size calf as you, they'd sit below it. sigh.

they are by far the nicest bikers i've seen, so i would definitely consult wtih the cobbler...

I have just sent my brown bikers into the cobblers to have the zip replaced, they've also been re-soled. I wear them to death Grin.
They're like the Marks ones but in chocolate brown suede and leather mixed and from Clarks, of all places (rock on). If you can find something nice in Clarks, they do tend to come up wider on the calf measurement. They also come up to just under the knee - I do agree that yours stop at the wrong place, sorry.

They look nice, Tethers. I quite like the Marks ones too, but I'd prefer leather to suede.

How about these?

Love those oakland boots. Boots are too tight- def a poor cut. I've seen better too.....

Agree those boots are not great - and at that price you need to love them and not put on something that makes you feel fat even when you are most definitely not.

How about these?

I have calves on the big side compared to my feet (size 3 1/2). I am 5 foot 1 inch too. I have always bought boots in Hobbs and they have a fair variety if styles once all the winter stock comes in. They've lasted ages too - I bought two pairs of knee high heeled boots about 4 years ago, and they're still going strong. They were £200 each, and have been an investment.

I agree with the others on your boots though, sorry. They just loook too tight. its not your legs, its the length of the boot.

Well, thanks for the compliments re legs! Wasn't expecting that! Okay, perhaps i need to resign the biker boot dreams. They are all the same length and will always hit me just at the point where my calf expands. unless anyone knows a place selling boots for short and fat-legged people.

The photos really don't do the boots justice, the leather is lovely and they are v comfy so if any of you skiny legged women are in the market for a piar, do try them.

Will return and perhaps try the short version instead.

Agree with the others, your legs are lush, boots are gash. You need ankle biker boots imo.

I think they look too tight. I think they are making your calves look bigger than they are due to the slight muffin top on the boots. I feel your pain as I too have sturdy calves due to cycling. Btw agree with comments about lush legs!

Your legs are perfectly nice, but the boots look like Dick Whittington rejects- how can they cost SO much?

No you haven't got sausage legs at all; they look a very nice shape but those boots cut off at exactly the wrong place.

I think you should sent them back.

I'm sure I've read some top tips on here for stretching boots. Something about put them in the freezer with a bag of water inside, the water freezes & expands and hey presto, stretched boots!

okay pics on profile. Be honest, do I look like I've got massive sausage legs?

I would say the boots re too thin. Blame them. Then have a look for another pair

Report
FreeButtonBee · 24/08/2011 18:45

okay, I think we may be safe to keep them. Have come home and tried them on (using Tethersend's patented lying on the bed technique) and I think they will be okay. Will post photos in a minute. It's v hard to photograph your own legs though!

Little bit tight on the calf but they slouch quite nicely already and I think that will only get better with wear. I would like half an inch or so more space on the leg and I will never be able to wear with jeans but I am more of a dress girl anyway. I might go to cobblers anyway to see if they can work a bit of magic. Only issue is there is a second band of leather all the way round the top where the buckle is attached, so twice as much leather to stretch.

Bear with me, while I encounter some technical difficulties

YY to what tethers says.

I have had boots stretched around the calf - there's a special machine used. Not all cobblers have one, but a good/large one will have, and in my experience the ones that don't have it, know where to send you.

Cost about £15 in the sunny Midlands!

Got into many pairs this way, and then of course, the more you wear them, the easier it gets!
