What to dress preschool boy in for wedding? Help?

Not sure what to put my little boy in. Obviously need to dress him smart but don't want him to be so smart that it looks like he's part of the wedding party.

Never taken my children to a wedding before so new territory!

Would rather the clothes could be worn again and they can be a bit funky as I'm not that traditional. Help?

tailored shorts - chino style? in navy or tan

short sleeved shirt in a funky colour - bright would mean you don't look part of the wedding party but look smart at the same time

Generally, nice trousers or nice shorts (depending on weather) plus a shirt -- probably a granddad shirt or a mandarin collar one at that age. A suit is a bit OTT for that age, I think.

If your were in Scotland then I would say a kilt without hesitation. Otherwise smart shorts or trousers and a shirt is really all you need.

Does he need to wear a little tie or anything? Might get him one anyway as it would be cute, but is it neccessary?

Anyone suggest where to get some nice tailored linen shorts? I have the same dilemma, going to wedding in Italy in Aug and have can only find combat style/casual shorts. DS is 3 but wears age 4 or 4-5 (very tall).

Why do they look awful? The tie that is. He's worn one before and it looked cute for the 2 mins he kept it on.

I'd go for the tailored chino-style shorts and nice short sleeved shirt option.

How old is he? I would probably avoid a tie because I would be concerned about choking.

But anyway, I think the mini-suits are cute if that's what you like. MN just has an obsession with them being uncomfortable. I don't really know why.

I also like the all white linen shorts and shirts look, but might be a challenging keeping that clean!

I lurrve waistcoats in little boys and have the most delicious photo of littlemad in one - he looks like a victorian chimmney sweep.

Littlemad (5) is wearing a suit for our wedding but he decided that what he wanted to look the same as the other 'boys' and is changing into his PE kit for the ice creams :)

He is nearly 3. I wasn't worried about the choking because I've seen clip on one's etc. I am not planning on getting a suit just because that would be expensive etc.

Was just wondering if I got him some nice trousers and he wore them with a bright short sleeve shirt shirt or a white one (both on which he already has), with some new (so clean) shoes he has which are grey and white but are sort of converse style, would he be too casual?

Have a look at cyrillus the online french company, they do smart casual for little boys and girls. I would think you would find smart bermuda shorts for boys on there www.cyrillus.com/en/boys-boy-s-shorts-and-bermudas-shorts.htm if this helps. The quality used to be very good but have not bought anything for a while.

I likw waistcoats too but get confused as to what sort of shirt they can be worn with. Suppose it would be easier to just buy a compelte outfit, that way I'll know that it will all 'go'.

Try M&S or next for smart shorts, shirt and waistcoat. A relaxed shirt will do. I actually got a lovely white shirt from primarni for my boy. The black waistcoat I got him for our wedding has now been appropriated by my 9yo daughter.Hmm

The outfit you described in the post at 10.41 sounds lovely too me. Ds1 was that age when we got married and he had on some chino type trousers and a blue and white short sleeved check shirt. He was supposed to wear a little navy blue tank top over the top but fell asleep just before the wedding and when he woke up he refused to put it on!
He also just had on his normal shoes - and he looked cute in his wee outfit.

Glad you think it sounds ok. Just got to get some smart trousers now! He has some pinstipe ones which are really nice (thick material so almost like jeans) but he's worn them to death. Had a look at some websites and can't see anything similar. Perhaps I should get him shorts. The wedding is in August so should be warm.

I second hating seeing little boys in suits and ties. Jojomamanbebe have nice linen (?look) shorts and trousers and think that Gap might too. I think slightly smarter and a bit funky is all that's required. They are cute enough at that age.

Similar issue here. My son (3 in Sept) is wearing chinos with a white gap shirt. if really hot he has linen shorts. He has some very cute navy loafers fand I have bought him a dark blue linen jacket for the ceremony etc (DD is a flower girl so we are going smart) Agree suits/waistcoats/ties are a bit twee but the jacket is nice if it is a smart wedding you are going to.

Really? I'd rather put in a tie or waistcoat then a jacket. Would imagine a jacket to be a bit bulky and not very practical.

What about a year old boy - what would you put him in? Any suggestions? He lives mainly in soft jogging pants and t shirts as has dry skin which he scratches all the time if the clothing has seams or is rough.

Monsoon clothes are perfect for this and you can get them on eBay next to new and really cheap.
