Flares - whose going to do them then?

I have just purchased these amd they are very nice indeed.

Now I'm only 5ft so was sceptical but they are actually pretty leg-lengthening especially as worn long with high wedges.

Now just have to figure what footwear to wear with them now and what tops.

I love flares, being tall I find them very easy to wear. I think that they are the most flattering trouser cut of all tbh.

Chippy, clearly you're just too fashion-forward for him.

Today I dug out my flares and wore them with my new Boden (winter sale) white frill-front shirt. I thought it looked FAB. DH promptly googled a pic of Austin Powers Angry. I am undeterred.

I have just bought some oasis ones they are fabulous, have really interesting plaiting detail round pockets, proper 70s. They are high waisted too v slimming. Am sick of skinnies and to me bootcut just look frumpy and old fashioned.

Want some tops to wear with them, tucked in but not pussy bow, don't suit blouses really.

I popped into GAP last week to try on the jeans (given 25% discount) and couldn't summon up enough courage to try on the proper flares. I did try on the high-waist version and thought they made me look a little frumpy - maybe just because I'm not used to to them.

I did really like the sexy bootcut but think I'm going to get these long & lean jeans Yes, I know some of you will say they're bootcuts!!

Agree with OP that if they are really long and worn with high heels they are very flattering and leg-lengthening.

Size 3 feet have put me off flares as hate having no shoe on display and have had that embarrassing moment when one foot gets trapped in the front of the other trouser leg (still haunts me now!)

Hmmm...has anyone tried the GAP (non-pintucked) ones? Am a little scared to order online without trying, or having a report of the fit, first.

I'd love to, but at 6ft I think I'd just look scary tall in them

There is definitely a difference between frumpy bootlegs and skinny flares!

Whistles do some very nice long flares. Very flarey, bit £££ but always found their jeans last. I'm 5 11 and would most certainly have to wear them with wedges to avoid soggy bottom! Waiting for imminent sunny weather Smile

But thats fashion isn't it? Same product with a few tweaks - give it a new name, ensure tis sold in top shop and is correct lenght and not worn with mum-boots and there you go Wink

Oh downtown heels arrived today - love them!

They're not bootlegs - they're skinny flares [stamps feet]

Anyway they look nice.

And remember at 5ft they look much flarier on me.

Tracy - I am a dab hand with my sewing machine. Most of my trousers and jeans have long tucks sewn into the back, but it doesn't always work! But, hey, who needs an excuse to buy new clothes?

Link to the Gypsy Top I just bought to wear with my flares. Looks nice!

Wearing flares right now. Have 2 pairs, MiH Marrakesh (cheap from Outnet) and 7FAM Gingers (ditto from yoox). Both are supermodel proof in length, haven't measured them but they must be 34 or 35 inches. Waist true to size. Different, both look lovely (Gingers are dressier), and so much more flattering on me than skinnies.

Oh, and I'm 5'7 and had to shorten both pairs a bit.

I feel a bit too 1973 in them with a loose top. Love them with a fitted, tailored, structured little jacket.

Bandgeek - topshop do a 36inch leg in their tall range I think.

No chippy they're much worse in the flesh that's why I bought them. Wink

Contreau - buying new clothes after weight loss is fun though. Although a good tailor may be able to alter your old ones but may cost as much as a new pair.

Meggles - oooh that sounds lovely!

Dairy - I tried the indigo ones but they were just too wide through the leg for me and too flarey but didn't see the plum ones but love that colour.

I LOVE flares - it's the hippy in me Grin

Does anyone know who does them in longer lengths?

Report
CointreauVersial · 23/02/2011 18:32

I love the flares/wedgies combo, and was looking forward to digging out my pairs from a few years back, but I've gone down a couple of sizes recently, and I'm gutted they probably won't fit.

And I bought a gypsy top to go with them!

Tracey - am also 5ft and agree that they are leg lengthening with wedges Grin

I think that much more flared ones are the reserve of the slim and tall!!

I am currently wearing mine with sky high tan stack heeled boots and silk pussy bow blouse. When it gets warmer, I will be wearing with my tan T bar wedges and a breton top - uber chic Wink

Tracey - have you tried the plum/grey ones? I've tried the pintucked ones and they are quite wide, but I love the waist-cinching properties. I haven't tried the plum ones yet though and wondered whether they are as wide in the leg as the others.

just looked again at the pics - they must be better in the flesh. Seen any cork wedges about?

Topshop ones more flattering on me and whatever makes my thighs look skinny gets my vote Smile
