We all know that vitamins and minerals are vital to the human body and help us grow, see properly, help make bones, muscles and organs stay healthy. However the difficult part is ensuring that you and your children have all the right vitamins and minerals in your system...especially with vitamin D, as we live in a fairly sun-deprived country Sad. Therefore Noluma would love to know all the ways you ensure your children are getting all the vitamins and minerals they need.

Here’s what Noluma, the authority in light protection of packaging, has to say: “Scientific research shows that packaged goods can be negatively impacted when exposed to indoor lights such as retail lighting or LED lights in the kitchen. This causes the quality, freshness, flavour and more importantly, nutritional qualities to deteriorate. So if you think you are giving your children a glass of milk and getting those valuable nutrients into them this way, you might want to think again! Unless the milk bottle or carton comes in light protected packaging, chances are the product has degraded before it reaches the ‘use by’ date. This is especially true of see-through glass bottles. Here at Noluma, we are the only authority in light protection technology that certifies packaging using our patented state-of-the-art assessment process. We are uniquely able to measure all types of packaging for its ability to protect against damage due to both natural and artificial light, and to stop content change due to light exposure. Visit lightdamageisreal.co.uk to find out more”

Do you sneak vitamins filled fruit and veg into their meals? If so do you have any recipes or techniques you could share? Or maybe you don’t need to and your children are very good at eating lots of fruit and vegetables? Perhaps you like to make sure they’re outdoors as much as possible so they’re getting lots of great sunlight? Or maybe you know of some child-friendly vitamin supplements that help your children get all the nutrients they need?

Whatever your tips and tricks are for getting vitamins and minerals into your children, share them on the thread below and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

A healthy diet is a must. I have much better luck getting them to eat veg, often blended into Bolognese & soups, than fruit.
Bananas are a daily staple but fruit mostly in yoghurt

Fruit ALWAYS on offer throughout the day and always make sure we have varied veg in our meals

Quite lucky that my kids are not really fussy eaters and love their fruit and vegetables they can drink milk until the cows come home (sometimes I wish I owned one we use that much) and yoghurts.
I introduced these foods into their diet from a baby by making my own meals and purée for them which I think helped them accept it quicker as introducing foods when they get a little older can be tricky. We use fruit to create funny faces and animals :) they love being outdoors it's something I encourage no matter rain shine or snow we get outdoors.
It's important to inform your child on the benefits of minerals and vitamins and why they are so beneficial to us I've always talked about benefit of the food while eating with them and explained where it come from sometimes it even made them want to eat the fruit when they knew more about it than if I would just place it infront of them.
Also I thinking because we eat with our children at meal times and include these foods into our own diet and they can see us eating it gives them the motivation to do the same 😊

My daughter loves her fruit and vegetables so make sure she gets plenty of both, she also has her chewy multivitamin everyday too and I try to make sure she has a balanced diet and spend lots of time outside too

Completely a healthy diet, they see we enjoy what we eat and then they follow suit, i also encourage them to help with the cooking so they are learning how to make great food out of what they sometimes see as boring food. Everything in moderation. We have recently cut back on puddings and had alot more fruit with a small scoop of ice cream or yoghurt as a treat and they have said they like that better than a shop bought pudding.

Really interesting about the impact of light!! We tend to rely on food and drink (and sunshine!) to get Oscar everything he needs - he eats a wide range of foods, and as a Slimming World consultant, I'm lucky enough to have plenty of training in healthy diets...

I steam vegetables rather than boil them to keep all the nutrients in. We try to get outdoors as much as possible with exposure to natural sunlight. We will occasionally take a multivitamin to help us get anything we are lacking.

They get veg hidden in sauces with most meals, I blend it up so they think the only veg they’re getting is what they can see served separately.

For my youngest, who hates milk, butter, cheese etc I make pancakes. Don't know if that helps or not!

My kids love making their own fruit kebab sticks, it's the best way i've found of getting them to eat a wide variety of fruits, I basically chop various fruits into chunks place them on large plates and give my boys a wooden kebab skewer ( I cut the pointed end off ) and they love loading the sticks up and eating the lot.

I have had to resort to hiding foods in meals as my son is autistic and quite restrictive of his diet. I do try and educate him on diet and nutrition and why he needs a balanced diet tjough, but sometimes it falls on deaf ears, so I have mastered blending schooling to disguise all sorts! Did you know you can grate mushrooms? Prune juice can be added to spag bol, chillis etc for that extra bit of fibre. Grated carrot can be added to just about anything! He's also not great with fruit, but now summer's here there's always good old frozen lollies - home made of course!

I make vegetable soup a couple of times a week which my children have a bowl of when they come in from school just to keep them going until the evening meal. I also send a little mixed salad with the packed lunches and fruit for afterwards
