She’s lost 2 years through burnout. Now as an EHCP.

She will be returning to a special school 6th form when she’s 18. Child benefit ends at 19. What happens in the final year? ( equivalent of year15)

Child benefit can continue until 20.

DC can look at claiming UC. However, DD (or someone as her appointee) claiming UC now may result in more money. If you don’t claim tax credits/UC with her on your claim you would definitely be better off with DD making her own claim. If you do claim tax credits/UC you would need to do a comparison.

Cam she claim UC and still be in college?

Disabled young people can claim UC whilst in full time education in a limited number of situations. Including where they receive PIP and LCWRA is established prior to the start of the course. Because DD is not in full time education at the moment she, or her appointee, can apply now. Then if LCWRA is established prior to when she starts of school UC can continue. (Whereas if she was in full-time education now a credits only new-style ESA claim would need to be made first in order to establish LCWRA ready for her changing course).

From the September following the young person’s 19th birthday the rules change and LCWRA doesn’t necessarily need to be established prior to the start of the course, you would just need to prove the course is not incompatible with any work related requirements on her individual claim (which may be nothing due to her disability).

Contact have information about UC and young people here and here.

She’s on full PIP. Whats LCRWA?

Thanks for the rest of the info. So UC is higher then CB. Dh is her appointee for PIP

Limited capability for work and work related activity.

If you aren’t claiming tax credits/UC yourself, DH should apply for UC for DD in her own name now.

Thank you ladies. How much is UC?

The standard element for under 25s is £292.11 per month. If someone gets LCWRA it is an extra £390.06 per month.
