My 13 year old daughter has asked me to buy her book to help her understand her Aspergers.
I can't find one at a suitable level that doesn't cover trans issues/gender dysphoria, a door I don't wish to open, or depression - something she doesn't have & I don't want her to think is going to be part of her experience of growing up with autism.
I've looked at
Sienna Castellon's Spectrum Girl's Survival Guide - includes a whole chapter on gender which oddly does not seem to fit with the author
Abigail Balfe's A Different Sort of Normal - peppered throughout with gender & sexual identity 'options'. The author doesn't seem to be able to separate her own sexuality/community from her autism.
I'm interested in The Girl with the Curly Hair but Alis Rowe talks a lot about shutdowns & depression in the sample I downloaded. Has anyone read her book aimed at 12-16 year olds? Does it cover gender dysphoria/depression etc?
I'd be very grateful for any recommendations
