Hello,

We've been building a feature to let Mumsnetters receive email alerts when a thread they are watching gets a new post and we'd really like you to try it out and let us know what you think.

You can turn it on by visiting your customise talk page.
You can also check which email address we have for you on your account page.

Right now the way it works is; if you're not actively browsing threads then you'll get an email to let you know when someone posts to a thread you're watching. You'll only get one email for each thread regardless of how many people post. It's just a way of letting you know there's been some activity. If you go and visit the thread again that'll be reset and you'll be able to receive another email alert.

This is a completely optional opt-in opt-out feature. You can change your mind at any time by going to customise talk.

It's our first little prototype so any bugs or quirks you find or suggestions you have please share.

Thank you!

In fact, experimenting a little more, I get the same error when I try to add any threads from Mumsnet Local to my watch list, not just the ones I started.

I second it would be more useful if you could tell us when the op has posted again!
Also, is there any way you could have a button that just takes you to the next comment the op posted? I was reading a thread last night, but was only interested in the ops updates, but had to scroll through 8 1000000s of pages to find them all?

Thank you midweekGandT that's really helpful. We'll investigate after the weekend.
Beanymonster, interesting thoughts... We'll have a think about what might be possible. Thanks!

Beany, in the meantime you could do one or more of the following ....

  1. Click on "show all messages" at the top of the thread so you get a continuous thread rather than pages, then use ctrl-f to text-search the page for the OP's name.

  1. Change your preferences to highlight posts by the OP.

  1. Use the advanced search facility, searching by nickname to find all posts by the OP.

Oh thank you midweek, I didn't know I could do any of that!

The new email alert function seems to have stopped working now. I'm not getting alerts for a thread in my Watch list, even though it's active.

Plus, I still get an error when I try to watch a local thread.

MNHQ, you need to sack your regression testers! (Or is that us?)

Hi midweekGandT,

Apologies for the disruption, we had a server problem on Friday and that's knocked a few things out. We'll be working over the course of this week to get everything up and running again.

Thanks for flagging
