I do like the idea of Phoebe coming back as the local MP in future, although it would be tricky with the studious avoidance of party politics.
Delurking briefly to say that party politics hasn't always been avoided in TA. Shula was an active Young Conservative in her teens: Jill wasn't happy about this (I like Jill
) and tried to persuade her to check out Felpersham Young Liberals, but without success. Mark Hebden, Shula's first husband, joined the SDP in its early days, and served a term as an SDP Councillor for (iirc) the canning factory ward in Borchester. Shula made it clear that Mark's politics were his own affair but she was still a Tory.
Later on, Brian agreed to stand for the County Council as a Conservative but was kicked in the head by a cow before polling day, (from which he developed epilepsy) and withdrew. I remember Jenny was blithely talking about planning to organise his campaign for him about three weeks before polling day, which showed that she or the SWs (probably both) had very little idea about how political campaigning works.
Pat, of course, way back, was regarded as having become a dangerous lefty when she developed feminist leanings and started reading the Guardian (shock horror!) though I don't recall her actual voting intentions being discussed.
Sorry, not that relevant. Just thought...
