cheminote "does anyone else know what I'm talking about?" made me LOL...that could be my catchphrase , it really could!

Primadonna - glad to make you laugh! I saw my name and thought it was to say 'it was that time when...' but maybe someone else will remember.

I think it was me, Lillian! Sadly, I'm not a SW. I have a theory that the cast is going to be culled bit by bit and each pair/group is going to be in the spotlight for a little bit as a sop before they leave forever. Tom and Kirsty have already gone. Alistair is probably on the way out too, and it looks as if Mike and Vicky are close behind. I don't give much for Pip's chances.

Fortunately, the spotlight treatment was withheld from He Who Must Not Be Named. Smile

Cheminotte, are you thinking of the goings on when Helen, Kate and Will Grundy were children? Kate locked Helen in Blossom Hill Cottage at a time when it was empty (Peggy's old home, now Usha's) and there was some trouble. Probably explains a lot about Helen, now I come to think of it.

what is Carol FOR?

She is for the new Editor's belief that the appeal of TA lies in its connection to its past and for his (currently rather unusual) respect for the more venerable residents / past residents.

She was very significant for quite a while - I only remember hearing about her... Apparently she was rather an icon for young women aspiring to modernity and independence.

My feeble brain is grasping for some classical allusion in relation to Carol.
I keep thinking Cassandra but she's not doom-laden enough. I feel she's somehow there to be perceptive, put right some wrongs and shake people's lives up a bit.
Does that make any sense?

Thanks Mimsy - no not that far back - I would not have been actively listening back then as I have been only been listening properly since about 1999.

Now I think about it maybe Kenton was involved.somehow as well? Some fish for The Bull's menu?

I think she is supposed to remind characters of their past. Even Jenny had a lot more about her than nowadays. Actually this party for the kitchen could highlight that - instead of writing regularly for the paper, raising Jacob's sheep, weaving and selling to London her own wool and so on, that was the Jenny when Carol knew her.
Jill is already becoming a bit more feisty, and it will be good for her to have an ally. I only remember bits from when I listened with my mum, but it's nice to have the history talked about again.

It's giving characters an opportunity to both recount and describe how they feel about things that have happened recently and further back too

Very prescient Mimsy. Could Cathy also be for the chop - when did she last make an appearance or even warrant a passing reference? And Oliver and Caroline have been strangely absent too - I thought Ed would have been going to Oliver for help. In fact maybe that's where Ed's fortune will come from in the end - the death of Oliver (he's getting on a bit isn't he?)

Vicky mentioned cathy yesterday in the context of schools but that was the first we've heard of her in a while

CuttedUpPear · 15/08/2014 09:12

Cathy was virtually resident at Bridge Farm's kitchen table when she was having troubles.

She has been pretty non existent as support for Pat in recent months.
Really annoying inconsistency.

Hey - are you all on your phones and therefore not appreciating my pic of Radio Carter?

Cathy could just be a really shit friend Cutted - all take and no give. That would explain why Tony can't be arsed with her.

CuttedUp I liked your picture! although I had this in mind..

Also, I know we aren't talking about characters' appearances any more but it just hit me on the way to work that Jazzer (in my mind) is Spider who used to be in Coronation Street.. anyone remember him? not sure if we are allowed to mention any other TV/radio series on here

I am looking forward to Carol moving in and causing havoc in the village Grin.

Time for Roy to get the sack after his media relations blunder?

Cheminotte, I think you're recalling when Josh was catching crayfish and selling them to Kenton for The Bull to put on the menu. Ruth put a stop to it eventually. Some issue over a licence, possibly? There's a problem with one kind of invader crayfish threatening the survival of the less robust native crayfish and I think Josh argued that he was doing a good deed by getting rid of the invaders, but I'm not sure that would have stood up to close scrutiny. Kenton, of course, had not thought about any of the obvious issues around buying shellfish from a pretty dubious source.

I would lose no sleep over Kathy's departure from the cast. I always find she has the same effect on me as a Dementor.

Oh thanks psuedo my first good laugh of the day Grin though I like trevor also had the 'through the hedge backwards" look in my mind, which is now passe and should never have 'in' IMO !!!

Thanks Mimsy - yes that's right. I think it was Ed that caught Josh didn't he?

Report
ppeatfruit · 15/08/2014 14:54

Yes I remember Spider Trevor but I think of him more as a Phil from EE or a unattractive Lee Mack type. No one ever says 'cor' over poor Jazzer (on TA of course, I'm not including the deranged types on here Grin ) do they?

Odd... I've always seen Jazzer as looking like Noel Fielding 'cept with a different accent (I'd assumed everyone else did as well. Silly everybody else...)
