Which breathing monitor?

Could anyone advise me on which is the best breathing monitor for a neurotic first time mum?

I have come across the snuza hero / halo which clips onto the nappy and looks quite good (also portable for use in moses basket and pram), but i also read good things about the angelcare.

Baby will be sleeping in a bedside crib, so it needs to be good enough to not confuse our breathing too.

Thanks in advance

No, not every baby. DD was premature and she needed a little stimulation at the start, eventually sje just reminded herself and needed no stimulation. Her brother (premature) never paused breathing. My previous 4 children didn't have apnea/paused breathing either.

Just some babies, some parents don't/didn't realise their baby may have done this and that their babies are perfectly fine. I think it's mostly seen in premature babies. Correct me if I'm wrong though! Read the SIDS guidelines and there's nothing overworrying to worry about :)

In fact, I had never heard of it or informed about until my preemie twins were born.

Don't go making a mountain out of anthill about it.

Calm down people!

Anxieties running amok here Smile

It's vanishingly unlikely there will be a problem. If you are in a risk group, your midwife would flag it. If you are not and you are worried about any of this, you'd do better to get a control of your anxiety, rather than feed it with every monitor on the market.

Thanks multiple - I do have anxiety and a really bad habit of 'self doubt' and thinking I've stupidly forgotten/ignored something everyone else knows.

Mine definitely isn't premature - sitting here past 40 weeks waiting. Which probably explains precisely why no one told me, it won't apply in my baby's case.

Thanks again.

Squiz - yes, it is very, very rare. And the main risk is premmies or those with other complications. If you have a normal, healthy baby, following SIDS guidelines is perfectly adequate from a breathing point of view, that's why no one has flagged it to you. Smile

I used the repisense monitor which i attached to the nappy. It only ever went off if it wasn't put on properly. The only problem was that she was born at 6 lb 4 oz and was a bit little for it initially. I also stopped using it when she started to roll at night because it would annoy her so didn't use it for long.

I think I knew deep down it was very unlikely, I felt better knowing that there was something to remind her to breath and alarm me if she didn't. But I was also neurotic when pg and would also doppler my little dd constantly whilst in my tummy to check she still had a heartbeat.

I was just like you with my PFB. I bought an angelcare one. Then i never used it. Nope, didn't even come out if it's box. I ended up giving it away to another PFB

Thanks for the reassurance, I realise the example a friend shared with me recently about repeated breathing stopping was a prem baby (who's totally fine now). Glad to hear it can become second nature to listen out to their rhythms/patterns
