Potty training support thread March 2026

Would anyone like to join a support thread for potty training? Couldn't see one running already. I've found it helpful for having other people to bounce ideas off or to share successes with... and potty training is one of those things my non parent friends really don't care about 😂

So I'll start. We've been following the ERIC "potty learning" style of introducing a potty really early, sometimes catching wees or the occasional poo. We have a toilet seat reducer and a step too but my daughter has gone off of that lately and prefers the potty. We've done some nappy free time but not very regular.

We've just bought some training pants and once they've arrived the plan is to really commit and see if we can progress a bit. She already indicates most of the time when she needs a change so I'm hoping the pants makes it every time and we can find a rhythm with it all.

Hoping the warmer weather also means when we get to the point of risking no pants at all she can be outside.

Anyone else?

How old is she? I didn’t find training pants helpful, I think felt too much like a nappy for mine. Potty trained youngest 2 years and 3 ish months about 5 weeks ago and she’s done great, just a few days home with no bottoms on, then straight to nursery in nickers. Few accidents here and there but nothing too bad. She mainly still uses potty as she takes herself there when she needs to go but will generally go on toilet with a seat or without if we hold her, especially if we’re out and about without a travel potty.

I think don’t overthink it, just pick a preferably 3/ 4 day stint where you can be home or around and ditch the nappies. I was a bit concerned as to how it would all go with my first but both of mine did well and both were same age starting. Good luck, hope it goes well! X

@sugarland24 the hope behind the training pants is we get more of a reliable connection between peeing and needing to change immediately. At the moment it's mostly me being aware of timings, though as I said she's started being more reliable with tapping her nappy to show she's gone.

So maybe we'll find them useless too but I want to give them a go before writing it off 😂 We're currently using cloth nappies and they're difficult for her to remove so it's about encouraging independent dressing too.

The training pants have arrived! The sudden warmer weather has also given a boost to potential nappy free time so that's nice. I bought a second potty so there's one downstairs just in case she takes to it, and we'll be starting "potty training proper" next week i.e no more nappies for awake time. Quite exciting!
