It's all cold reading ladies.

I understand how hard it must be to lose someone you love, but letting some snake oil seller exploit your grief is a very poor tribute to the memory of your loved ones.

Why not spend the money on a more fitting memorial? Or use the money to visit a grief counsellor?

As for John Edwards and his ilk... I agree with South Park on this one

Spiritualist's believe in angels and a divine being but are really open minded - they won't question your own religion or beliefs. It's quite a friendly laid back atmosphere where everyone's welcome basically. If you go to a sunday service they'll probably sing a couple of songs but again, not really religious stuff. The speaker will then 'communicate' with someone on the other side - they generally say something like: "Im somewhere over here" and point in a direction towards the audience, they'll ask if anyone thinks they know who they're talking about and try to establish who the message is for.
All sounds kinda vaugue I know but it's hard to describe it- have you seen 'sixth sense' with Colin Fry on TV?? That'll give you a good idea what its like.
You've got nothing to loose by popping in though.

I have seen spiritualist churches advertised. I had never heard of one before. Are they religious? Has anyone else been. Not sure if I would find that more wierd and so public. What do they do?...just pick on someoene from the audience?

You could always go along to your local spritualist church, they usually have guest mediums on a sunday and other stuff going on in the week. Although if your mum's only just passed she may not come through yet - someone else on the other side might give a message on her behalf though. No guarantee anyone will come through for you but they should be able to put you in touch with a local medium.

Hi myermay...I live in south BUCKS.

I dont think it would freak me out...as I am realy quite cynical but I am aware that I am clutching at straws but I am desperate for some comfort and connection

i went to see one lady absolute crap,then went with my dd whos baby son died of cot death died two years ago,and he came through and it was amazing,he knew something had been done at chapel of rest that noone knew about,it was amazing and bought a lot of comfort to us.
btw it wasnt pre booked so just went last moment .

Yes twice. First one told me someone close to me would die. She wouldn't take any money from me. My dad died 3 days later. They aren't meant to say things like that apparently.
2nd one was total rubbish and very, very weird.

Yes and it was amazing - said extraordinary things I can't work out. Like 'Kathleen known as Kitty is here - tell the family of three that should have been four that the little boy is with her'. Totally right - and didn't fumble names at all. Also told me 'your Dad says you have met someone in Kent (not where we were) who is a graphic designer and has just been commissioned to do his first CD cover. He says this is a good thing.' The man in question is now my husband and she was exactly right. She was spot on with lots of other things too. Also booked under a different name because I was suspicious. But it didn't bring my Dad back and still not really sure what to make of it.

Went to same one again and it was rubbish - she had had a stroke though - still - thought that would bring you closer to the spirit world if anything!

mulranno, sorry I had to go.
Sorry for your loss. I also lost my Father suddenly and was tempted to see a medium, but I didn't mainly becasue I had such a rubbish experience in the past. I understand why it ight be a comfort, but if you do decide to do it, don't expect too much from it in terms of resolution, etc. It takes time to recover from the shock of a sudden death and there is no short cut unfortunaltely. It is hard, but you can get through it with the love and support of your family and friends and time.
Please know that you are not alone though.

We lost our 63 year old mother very suddenly and traumatically a few months ago. My sister went to see one last week...very accurate and comforting comments...weird for me as keent o go although dont believe in religion/god etc
