Can we have a positive thread about Catholicism?

PadgettsDream · 01/08/2023 23:55

There is currently a thread running where there is a lot of criticism of the Catholic Church which is in many cases fair enough and it needs to be discussed but that thread in my opinion often strays into outright anti-Catholic sentiment and even bigotry against Catholics and Catholicism in general.

So I wonder if anyone would like a space to talk about the positives of the Church? I myself was raised Catholic, went to a convent School and it was wonderful really. I did not have any bad experiences and the Church has always been a source of strength and comfort for me. It doesn't dominate my life, I'm not brainwashed by it but its been an important foundation for me and I am thankful for it. In my own family history the Church stepped in and helped when nobody else would.

Any other positive stories?

@adiposegirl2,

"11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."(Corinthians 13:11-13)

Do you have the full knowledge of God? Do you understand completely the entirety of The Word? Are you in complete and perfect unity with Christ?

If not, how can you truly evaluate anyone else's understanding?

Therein lies a mystery....

It's OK I won't be commenting any more. These threads always chase actual practicing Catholics away with their hostility.

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 17:31

@adiposegirl2

I like to pray The Unity Prayer. It's a Catholic prayer. Here:

My adorable Jesus,
May our feet journey together.
May our hands gather in unity.
May our hearts beat in unison.
May our souls be in harmony.
May our thoughts be as one.
May our ears listen to the silence together.
May our glances profoundly penetrate each other.
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father.

@Narratoritis, sorry you feel this way. There is no hostility here from me. Flowers

in response to your last paragraph - I would say choose your gods carefully and protect yourself from those whose intentions might be bad.

@Kdtym10, I only recognise one God. 😉 Although I don't disagree with the Blake quote.

Note lack of capitalisation 😀

@Kdtym10, yes, it was noted 😉. Note my use of capitalisation. 😁

I am not Catholic but I adore catholics and get on so well with them. I have been to they're churches across the world and observed their prayers and ceremonies and its all been wonderful.

My closest friend is Catholic and we both are sisters to each other.

I appreciate the scriptures however what is your context?

Your doing that thing folks do but I'm happy to answer:

Of course I do not have full knowledge of God. Im perplexed as to how you arrived at that conclusion? It is written: Whenever our heart condemns us, for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything 1 John 3:20

I am only an obident child of the most high. In my relationship with God if he wants me to know something, he will reveal it to me- its called revelation. It is written: Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good
1 Thessalonians 5:19-21. So I ask Him for discernment.

Although I DO stumble at times, I seek His forgiveness, mercy and at times grace. I seek Him earnestly, through prayer and fasting, I help the poor, widowed and fatherless. I pray we will deem me worthy to be used for the the winning souls to Him. I was once in the world, with a FORM of godliness. Organised religion will keep one in bondage.

It is written: Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “’Come out of her, my people,’ so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues;
Revelation 18:4

I urge any of you to come out of her, there is only one mediator between you and GOD- His name is Christ Jesus- He is the only way, the truth and the light. Any other is anathema!

I can discern a person's understanding of The word of God based on how they construct answers how they use the scripture, if they use it out of context, or in context with regard for pretext and post text, if they rely only on scripture or/and they use text, quotes, that are outside of God's law.

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 21:28

@adiposegirl2

Although I DO stumble at times,

How is this possible with perfect unity? Jesus didn't stumble, did He?

I can discern a person's understanding of The word of God based on how they construct answers how they use the scripture, if they use it out of context, or in context with regard for pretext and post text, if they rely only on scripture or/and they use text, quotes, that are outside of God's law.

So perhaps you can tell me plainly if you are discerning me stumbling here, in my posts to you.

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 21:37

@adiposegirl2 erm scrap those first questions. I misread and I thought you were claiming full knowledge!😂 The reason I asked initially is because without full knowledge it is difficult to claim full discernment or comment on another's discernment.

However I'd still appreciate your discernment on how you think I'm stumbling. I pray in Faith, for discernment too. You've seen an example of something I regularly pray (The Unity Prayer) upthread.

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 21:41

See these two paragraphs seem to contradict each other. You appear to be putting yourself in the role of mediator ?!? Please tell me I'm wrong here...

You are indeed wrong here.

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 22:24

On our judgement day, ignorance of Gods word will not be sufficient defence. Please meditate on the word and show yourself reproved. Ask Him, in the name of JC, by the holy spirit for revelation and discernment and HE WILL grant it to you, As He is a God who cannot lie.

@adiposegirl2, regarding your statement here this piece of scripture came to mind.

"38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[k] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8 38-39).

So it is good to keep hope over people! God can reach them!

"5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." (Romans 5:5)

🙂

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 22:36

@adiposegirl2, so you don't believe you can reliably discern someone else's understanding of The Bible then?

I’m a little confused here. Are you saying that your understanding of the bible is the correct version?

It is written: “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:43

Can you all with your strawman replies? Its all so... Pharisees

I have had a look at your previous posts... my fellow folks in Christ Jesus please be come better spokes people for the God of the Holy Bible.

You do remember that we ALL will be judged by Elohim Adonai for EVERY word that has come out of our mouths and at that time there will be no further opportunity to repent?

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 22:43

@adiposegirl2, we are posters on the internet. How do you know about all the fruits we have born? Where are our thorns? Indeed in real life how do you know about all the fruits someone has born unless you know them intimately? How do you know the fruit is good or not until you taste it? Equally even if you do taste it, picked out of season it might just be unripe...

*You do remember that we ALL will be judged by Elohim Adonai for EVERY word that has come out of our mouths and at that time there will be no further opportunity to repent?

@adiposegirl2*, which is why I thank Christ continually for coming amongst us so that we can receive forgiveness.

heyhohello · 29/01/2024 22:53

"How do you know the fruit is good or not until you taste it?"
It is written:
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 18:21
Clue- this proverb is not about the literal tasting of fruit

It is written:
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. James 1:26

It is written:
And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. James 3:6

Those that have ears, let the hear!

"Heavenly Father Jehovah Rapha, may the words of our mouth and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in Your sight, my rock and my redeemer. Help us, Lord, to speak with kindness, wisdom, and love, reflecting Your glory in all that we say and think. In Christ Jesus' name, I pray. Amen

to be honest you sound like a 1980sAmerican TV evangelist at this point. You’re not answering any of the questions just setting out various quotes from a book that has been translated numerous times.

interesting though you revert to using the Hebrew for the names of God. Why is that? what are your views on the name Elohim? Female and plural? Was it the beings that served God who created the Earth?

in your first quote, what is a “good man”
