Pagan Mums???

piximon · 17/10/2004 19:51

Hi, I was wondering if there are many pagan mums on here and what path are you are following?
I'm having a hard enough time finding other mum's to talk to let alone ones who understand the path I'm following.
I look forward to any responses.

Hi

I'm pagan and have been for a while. My SIL is pagan too and I have been to a few things with her. I don't think I'd necessarily describe myself as Wiccan though - at the moment there's too many books out there that are aimed at pressurising teenagers into buying the "right" things etc for the alter and no more deep meaning thatn that.

I love Glennie Kindred's books -especially "Sacred Celebrations"

I also get "The Triple Spiral" which is a family based magazine aimed at pagan parenting.

My DS is now 2 and I can't wait to start building a "Wheel of the Year" with him where we can build upm a collage of all the things you see during the year/what grows etc - he's still a little too young but he loves tramping in the garden.

Hi all, have just discovered this site as pregnant and delighted to see discussion around Pagan/Wiccan themes. Am wiccan myself as is my DH and have been for over 5 years. Am also member of working group and find great joy in this path. Good luck to you all in finding your soul's true path!

Snugs · 18/02/2005 14:25

Merry Meet Woodelf - and congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'm sure you will soon become addicted to MN, most of us have! And it is great that more and more pagans are popping their heads up for a chat.

Merry meet Snugs!
Are you currently pregnant or do you already have children? Finding the whole prospect exciting but a little scary as it is the unknown and is sure to be an interesting adventure...BB

Snugs · 18/02/2005 16:04

Already a mum - 2 boys aged 7.5 and 3.5

Biggest, scariest, most exhilarating adventure of your life - nothing will ever be the same again once you are a parent.

As my name would suggest I tend towards pagan beliefs but do not stick rigidly to them - I just follow my heart and do what seems to be the right thing and it just so happens that this seems to be more pagan than anything else. My two are still very young (DD 17 months and DS 3 weeks) but shall just teach them that the more natural way of things is usually the best and that Mother Nature has been sorting stuff out for millenia so why should we humans think that we can do better.

Shall read other messages and links when I have a moment as they sound very interesting - don't have a minute with DS constantly noshing at the moment.

fostermum · 18/02/2005 16:28

i get called a pagan but i have no stricked rules i follow other then harming none,i give thanks to nature, and try to do all i can for the universe and the world we live in to stop the damage that is being done,i work with the moon,in such things as planting, meditating, and making creams and tonics from herbs, not sure what this makes me other then at peace do i even need to be called anything?

jabberwocky · 18/02/2005 16:56

Hi all. I lost this thread somehow. Glad to see it back today. Did anyone celebrate Candlemas? We had a nice little ceremony with about a dozen people. We talked about what we wanted to "plant" spiritually in the coming spring and put a candle in a large pot filled with cedar shavings. It had a Goddess candle in the center and we each lit ours from that.
I have also been reading Jean-Yves Leloup's translation of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene. Interesting how pagan some of the early Christians/Gnostics were.

flamesparrow · 23/02/2005 11:05

Hi, I'm new and got sooo bouncy to find this thread!!!

I'm a pagan, with pretty eclectic beliefs - I started off by looking into wicca, but fairly quickly realised that I didn't agree with all of it.

My Boy was raised Catholic, but he is now pretty much nothing. He says he doesn't want B being raised as a little witch exclusively, but that I can incorporate my beliefs into her upbringing (which was gonna happen anyway ).

She thinks its great... she got to do Christmas and Yule!

How do you guys incorporate sabbats into your little people's lives? (B is only 20 months)

xxx

Woodelf · 23/02/2005 15:13

As i have yet to give birth I have had to think about a child around my wiccan activities. I think that they could be involved on a very basic level in appreciating nature and connecting with it, but would not be involved in closed rituals until they chose to be initiated at 18. Funny if baby woodelf decided to be a rebel and turned catholic or something ack!

Snugs · 23/02/2005 16:10

I'm the same really. The boys have a good appreciation of Mother Nature and her wonders. When religious questions are asked, (such as the ones we had when DS1 was chosen to play Joseph in the Nativity - how ironic ) then I answer them as honestly but as simply as I can. If I attend an open celebration, like a Summer Solstice party for example, then the boys can come with me - but Rituals are not for children.

I don't really believe in raising children within a religion. I think it is something they should choose for themselves when they are old enough.

spinel · 04/03/2005 13:36

hi all, am new to this site and enjoying it very much, though i have to admit i feel a bit of a fraud, well i only joined because my daughter told me how good it was, (she was right)hope there are some more nans on here. back to the topic, i know a little about pagans both daughters are wiccans, but they are also spiritualists. So dear daughter if you read this why dont you tell everyone about naming ceremonies?

lunarx · 03/05/2005 16:26

hello fellow pagan moms
as a pagan now for nearly 7 years, (i'm 28); i am recently finding my way back to my beliefs which i describe as eclectic witchcraft influenced (non-wiccan, although wicca was the first pagan path i learnt and followed), with strong celtic/irish influences.
i have strayed from my beliefs and practices in the past 2 years, for many life changing reasons (moved to england from US, got married, had son); but now the calling is back in my life and i am eager to start up again...
dh is not pagan, and although is tolerant, is not very supportive...

Merry Meet lunarx. I did wonder if you were Pagan with a nickname like that .

Sounds like a similar path to my own. My original post on this thread is down at the bottom somewhere ? used to be called Snugs. Spinel (post below yours) is my mum.

Wicca sort of lit the way for me finding my true spiritual path although like yourself I no longer follow a truly Wiccan way.

flamesparrow · 03/05/2005 16:40

Hiya!

I'm a pagan mummy too.

I started off looking into Wicca, but as time has gone on, the best title I can come up with for myself is Pagan (or occasionally witch just cos of the great reactions ).

I believe in the sort of universal deity being in all of us type thing, and nature, seasons, sabbats. I rarely do any magick as I have always felt it should only be worked for something very serious, and apart from the odd bit of healing, nothing in my life has been that serious so far (and I am very very lucky to be able to say that).

My mum is a spiritualist, and my gran is a medium. Had my first ever spirit experience a month or so ago, and it scared the c%*p out of me, so hoping it won't happen again for a while!!!

Oh, DP was raised a catholic, and he says he is now a nothing. Very supportive of me though. Was so sweet when I first started looking into wicca... he went out and bought be a cauldron, and ordered me a pile of books off amazon!!

fostermum · 03/05/2005 17:35

I live in Switzerland and the pagan vibration is heaps more noticeable here than in my homecountry - NZ

M&S if you notice this post... did that quiz on beliefnet... came out labelled as ´New Thought`. Never heard of that faith before!

flamesparrow · 03/05/2005 18:36

Ooh, a quiz??

I wanna play!!

Papillon · 03/05/2005 18:47

here

Belief-o-matic quiz

Papillon · 03/05/2005 18:50

Bought a wee book today called ´Cornish Legends. First page I open has a short piece on How to become a witch

Touch a Logan stone nine times at midnight, and any woman will become a witch. A more certain plan is said to be-
To get on the Giant´s Rock at Zennor Church-town nine times without shaking it. Seeing that this rock was at one time a very senstive Logan stone, the task was somewhat difficult.

Aragon · 03/05/2005 19:03

Pagan but eclectic. No particular path - don't call myself a witch, just pagan.
Love Glennie Kindred's book called "Sacred Celebrations". Am not bringing my DS up as pagan but am bringing him up with a respect for the Earth and all within it, therefore, the realities of life - that the lambs in the field are the same as the lamb on his plate won't be hidden from him. I really want him to have an appreciation of what the Earth gives him in the form of water, fire, air, earth etc.

gothicmama · 03/05/2005 19:03
