I've read many threads on mumsnet on the theme 'have you ever experienced an evil presence' etc but would like to her about people's experiences of the opposite.

Have you ever experienced an angelic presence?

Please note I have posted in philosophy for a reason. If you do not believe, please fell free to ignore and carry on with whatever else you're doing.

same as religion really. some believe some don't. Most people need something to verify a belief which I do find strange as lots of religions don't provide it. Personally I only follow what I have validation so I'm not much different in that respect.

ollieplimsoles · 23/04/2017 22:22

But you haven't validated it. "Common knowledge in spiritualism" is not validation of the claims you made, the main one being 'Lots of people don't recognise the signs'- in saying that you are stating that there are even 'signs' to begin with.

I also have to address this:

Most people need something to verify a belief which I do find strange as lots of religions don't provide it. Personally I only follow what I have validation so I'm not much different in that respect.

I'm interested to hear what spiritualism has provided to validate the existence of the things being discussed in this thread (guardian angels, mystical forces beyond simple coincidence, an afterlife), that religion hasn't provided to validate any of its' many claims?

I have had prayers answered many times but am shamelessly place marking because i want to read lovely stories about people meeting angels. Its says something in the bible doesn't it about people entertaining angels and being unaware?

ollieplimsoles · 23/04/2017 22:39

I'm terribly sorry to call you out LilQueenie and I'm not trying to be rude. But your posts read more like statements of truth rather than the 'this happened to me and I believe it but I could be wrong...' style others have adopted.

orenisthenewblack · 24/04/2017 07:29

I think that signs can be personal. They have a personal affinity or attachment to something and believe that it's a sign for them.
I for one, don't get excited every time I see a white feather, but I know others do. On the other hand, a rainbow will give me a feeling of hope. It will make me smile.
On finding pennies everywhere, I smiled, and said 'I appreciate all the money you send me, but I need notes, not pennies'. Who was I talking to? I'm unsure. God maybe? The universe? My angels? My self? It wasn't said with any seriousness but with a chuckle. I kid you not though, with in two days, I found a folded tenner in the undergrowth outside my back gate as I put the bin out. It was dirty but a quick rinse under the tap and left to dry on the sill it was fine. My chuckle turned into a giggle though as I had received what I had asked for. Ask and you shall get.

I am thankful for everything thing. Thankful for everything I have plus any signs that I may recognise as such.

Place marking, very interested in this.

LilQueenie · 24/04/2017 09:52

you are right. They are statements based on my own experiences which is what many do base their beliefs on. I've have had so many experiences of spirit my whole life. I have also read and spoken to a lot of others on the subject. I don't agree with all that is said either but everyone has a personal journey which will vary from others.

LilQueenie · 24/04/2017 09:53

I also won't claim to have all the answers as no one has that.

LilQueenie · 24/04/2017 10:02

sorry I meant to answer your question. Religion is more of a series of events read from a book which people are advised to follow wheras spiritualism is more personal experiences that happen in ones life. Or at least that's how I view it. People meddle with religious text all the time whereas no one can do that with your own self. Its an internal thing. Bearing in mind I use the word spiritualism to mean being aware of mind body and soul and all the unseen around us rather than the actually definition of spirit contact via a medium.

LilQueenie · 24/04/2017 10:08

When I say validated. You can only truly validate it yourself. It doesn't matter to anyone else. its a personal thing. I've heard, seen and felt spirit so for me that's valid. For others they may need the same type of experience to say yes I believe this. Or some may believe without it. I tend to find most people need the experience first. That includes me. I used to be a huge skeptic. Now I can't deny it to myself.

As a Christian, I definitely feel angels are working all the time for God, and to help us.

Yes TitaniasCloset it does say something like that in the Bible (I can't remember exactly where off-hand). I reckon we probably have encounters with angels much more than we realise.

For myself, I experienced a definite vision once. I'd been going through a really difficult time in life, had dropped out of college, and was drifting, and had been homeless, and ended up living in a caravan (long story). I was just in the process of becoming a follower of Jesus at that time, but still had doubts. Then one night I was in agony, terrible period pain. I decided to try praying to Jesus for healing, and felt what I can best describe as something cold touching and/or hovering over the soreness on the sides of my back, and the pain instantly went. I thanked God, and drifted back to sleep. Then some time later in the night (no idea how long) I woke to see a bright light outside the caravan. I went to the window, and could see a tall being emanating light in every direction. It was a rural area, so no street lights or anything. The moment I touched the curtains the being disappeared from sight. Without it there was total darkness. I turned on the light, and opened the Bible I'd been lent, and the word 'light' seemed to be everywhere! I'm certain it was a spiritual encounter. To this day I'm not sure if it was an angel or Jesus Himself or what. But it was definitely a supernatural encounter, and I felt such peace & joy.

How wonderful Tea. I have only ever seen an angel once during meditation, which was wonderful in its self.

Does anyone know the significant of Robins?

orenisthenewblack · 24/04/2017 20:25

Some people think they are loved ones or sent by loved ones. Again, it's a personal thing. I saw a truly touching story on FB last week about a mother at her son's grave and a robin came to her.

DevelopingDetritus · 25/04/2017 06:39

Yes, I have one come in my garden a lot as well, so lovely. I just wondered why it was Robins in particular.

murphys · 25/04/2017 07:21

Yes I have, and although I am not overly religious I do believe we have a guardian angel. I know I do.

I have told this story before on here, so apologies if you are re-reading it.

When I was late into my teenager years, I lived in a smallish city and if we were going out in the evening we wouldn't just stay at one place, but move from pub to pub. Sometimes we would get a lift with a crowd that had a car who were doing the same, but other times we would just hitchhike. This one night we were three girls and were sticking out our thumb for a lift, whilst walking close to the beachfront, but in a fairly secluded part where there was an open grassy area where we were walking. We were walking, talking, laughing and the next minute I feel a tap on my shoulder and I turn around and an elderly lady was behind me, and said to me, 'you shouldn't hitchhike', I turned back and around again to her and again she said 'please do not hitchhike'... I looked towards my friends, and then turned back to her, and there was no one there. Now where we were walking was a big open grassy area, but there was no one walking away from us. I was quite shocked and said to my friends, did you see the lady and they honestly to this day think that I made it up.

BUT, a few weeks later there was a terrible incident where a young woman was abducted from outside her flat, she was taken to an area not far from where I saw the lady, and the two guys slit her throat and left for her dead in the bushes next to the road. It was part of a satanic ritual apparently. She miraculously survived and crawled into the road, where a university student passed by and found her. I am not in the UK, but it is quite well known here, for this lady survived the incident, wrote a book about her experience and is now a motivational speaker.

But, I know deep inside that that could have been me. I think about it often. I do go through phases of guilt that it happened to her, other times relief that I have somebody watching me keeping me safe.

When dd was born, she was very ill. She contracted group b strep at birth which resulted in meningitis at 6 weeks. We were told at the hospital (this is another long story) that she had only hours to live. She was in hospital for quite some time and I stayed there with her, and I saw an old lady walk past her private ward a few times in the night. Nobody can just walk in and out of the paediatric ward at night as the doors are locked and coded. When she was a little older dd was sitting on her bed and chatting away. I went into the room to ask her who she was chatting to. She said to me ' to the lady there sitting on my bed'. She was even able to describe the lady, and as soon as she said, she has very thin lips.... I just knew.

I also see repeating numbers, in fact quite a lot lately... in the past year or so... and just so many co-incidences have occurred that really got me a little freaked out a few times.

GerundTheBehemoth · 25/04/2017 07:29

Robins are woodland birds which have evolved the habit of following large mammals (especially wild boars) as they forage in the forest. The boars scuff up and turn over leaf litter, exposing soil invertebrates that the robins will eat. In Britain, robins have found that following humans around can work too (especially if the human in question is gardening). That's why robins, unlike most little birds, will actively approach us and take an interest in what we're doing.
