I suppose I am just very unhappy

Three years ago my brother killed himself, I understand why. I'm not saying I would - I absolutely wouldn't - but I 100% understand why he did it.

There is so very much wrong with my life I don't know where to start. I've made a mess out of it.

Can God help? Will He even want to?

God doesn't love you more if you're a 'good girl' you know. He can help. Antidepressants are also a good idea. In my experience, both have different places in the process. Have you tried praying? Not easy when you're feeling as you are.

I wonder why ttwk feels the need to post repeatedly about a God he/she doesn't believe in...

elderflowerlemonade - how are you doing? I think that everyone who has posted here has been genuinely trying to help, and I think that everyone has something to offer...

I do have faith, and I do believe that God cares about your situation, and loves you, as saturn says, for yourself and as yourself - not only if you follow some sort of pattern of model behaviour. As springy says, we all mess up all the time, but I believe that God's love is unconditional and (luckily) doesn't depend on what we can offer Him in return.

At the same time, I also believe that God works through the people we have around us in the here-and-now. That's why I don't think that it's anachronistic to reply to your question about whether God can help you, by suggesting counselling, ADs, or whatever... because it may be that these are the things that God's offering you right now as a way forward and a first step towards feeling better. Likewise posting on here... if people, of faith or otherwise, can offer a hand of friendship and care, one way of thinking of that might be to see it as one of the ways in which God Himself reaches out to you.

In other words, I think we are all saying fundamentally the same thing, though we may be coming at it from different directions. Let's keep the debate elsewhere and see if we can be supportive here. I hope you don't mind, but I've given you a mention over on the prayer thread too. Thinking of you!

Good post Tuo. Although I don't believe in god, your post reminds me of the story of the man who lived in the house about to be flooded.

The water was 2ft deep and police turned up at his door in a Landrover to rescue him. But he turns them away, saying he has faith in god and god would see he was ok. The water continues to rise and the man has to abandon downstairs and move upstairs. Police turn up in a dingy at his bedroom window to save him, but again he refuses their help. Soon the rising water means the man has now has to take refuge on his roof. Police turn up in a helicopter and lower a rope ladder to save him, but he refuses, saying that god will save him. The water continues to rise and he drowns.

So he's up in heaven and he comes face to face with god, and he says "I've worshipped you all my life, why didn't you save me?" and god replies "ffs, I sent a Landrover, a dingy and a sodding helicopter, what more do you want!"

OP, see your GP and get some counselling.

Yes yes YES to all that

But I do think God is with us even when we're at the shrinks/taking ADs/getting help. It's not like he delegates while he's busy with someone else, he's actually with you as you walk through. You're not like a plant he spends a bit of time with, goes off, then comes back to see how you're doing - he stays there the whole time.
