What do you enjoy about your faith?

Every so often one of the kids at work comes up with: "Miss, why are you a Christian?" and I usually answer (because I haven't got time for a deep philosophical discussion) "because I enjoy it". Which is the bottom line, really. I wouldn't bother if it wasn't enjoyable.

I really like:

  1. Having purpose, hope and joy in life.
  2. Having a growing spiritual (prayer) life.
  3. All the churchy stuff (I sing).
  4. All the social/community stuff.

How about other Mumsnetters? What do you really like about your faith? Grin

No, I don't. Despite coming from a Catholic background.

Good question.

I love being part of something that goes back over the ages and all over the world.

I love the feeling of community and belonging, all ages together in one purpose. Not always perfect, of course, but beautiful when we get it right.

I love the sense of completeness and wholeness. I feel God gives me such a sense of worth and value. I love the hope and purpose I experience in my faith.

I love that even on darkest days, in the midst of crappiest times I know God is here, walking with me, holding my hand, knowing the pain and weeping with me.

I love worship, especially through singing together with thousands of others, joined in something so utterly incredible and uplifting. I love it on my own too or in a service with a few. Worship to me is not a duty to appease a god but a pleasure and privilege to unite with God in intimacy and belonging.

I love the church year and festivals, the feeling of joining with others through history. The tradition of it.

And yes the reference point of something absolute when it comes to morality. Doesn't make me better than unbelievers but gives me a peace and safety in how I live my life.

I love the peace beyond understanding, for it really is that.

I love Easter! :-)

I love the contemplative space I get in a Church service - I love the time just to think about me, how I am being in the world, etc.
Love being close to God, and how he helps me be the best person I can be.
Love the links to my community, all the lovely people I have met, and also the less lovely too - the connections.
Love bringing dd up with a love of God, and the Church, and a strong moral context. We are liberal Christians, we understand that her interpretation of faith may be different to our own, or nonexistent, but such as it is, this is our gift to her.
Also our beautiful village church, which is always a joy to be in, and, for me, full of God's Grace.
Etc etc. Lovely thread, OP.

I have to say I don't do or get Faith. Not that I haven't tried, alpha course etc., but I decided I couldn't be a Christian Christian. I think I failed at doing faith.

But , the one thing which I believe faith can provide, on a personal level, is strength in praying and in believing in God and as a resource to draw on emotionally in tough times.

Oh and it can provide a ready community as well....I guess that's two things.

So I'm happy for dc to be a "fuzzy" Christian, if there is such a thing ...as opposed to a Christian Christian and take away those two things from it.

Hi all! Any Buddhists on here?? I practice Nichiren Buddhism. I like the fact that it makes my life feel more full, encourages me to achieve my full potential and helps me to help others who are suffering. I didn't have a faith before this, never thought I needed one, but it has enhanced my life in so many ways. Good to see so many of you getting so much out of your respective faiths here.
