Car insurance - two bumps not my fault, premium rocketed HELP!

In Jan 2022 a driver bumped my car (I was standing in the road at the time). Insurance company sorted it and I was told I was not at fault and my NC bonus would not be affected. I got insurance for following year no problems.

In Feb 2023 whilst I was in my stationary car, the car in front rolled into me. Insurance company said again it was not my fault and NC would not be affected.

Ive just tried to renew my insurance policy and did not mention either of the above incidents. I accepted insurance quote but have now been told that because of the above incidents, my monthly premiums will rise by £13!

I’ve cancelled this insurance (policy not due to start til next week). Am I going to have to pay
more this year through no fault of my own? Any advice please?

It’s probably because you didn’t declare them.

I worked in car insurance a while ago and yes a non fault accident will affect your insurance unfortunately. Your no claims bonus regardless of number of years hits it’s maximum discount at 5 years. After that it’s just a number.

It’s a hefty increase if you lose NCB considering it’s 2 years for every claim where an insurer cannot recover its loses (theft, hit and run, uninsured driver) but some companies protect against this now.

Your base premium is not just calculated on you and your car but also the number of incidents at your postcode (“good” areas can actually have high car thefts and increase your premium), and lots of other factors.

it’s all based on statistics which makes assumption but 2 non fault claims in a close space could indicate to an insurer you may be shopping/travelling/parking in tight roads, or other assumptions which puts you at a greater risk of another incident.

It’s “no claim” not “no blame”. It doesn’t matter if the claim wasn’t your fault, it’s still a claim and will therefore affect your premium.

Car insurance has gone up for everyone. Our has increased £80 for the year just because inflation is so high.

Shop around, we’ve been with direct line for years and they were always comparable to our checks (we always do a Meerkat when we are due renewal to check) for the same level of cover, this year I got both cars for less than direct line quoted for just mine with Admiral.

Ive just tried to renew my insurance policy and did not mention either of the above incidents.

You are obliged to mentioned any accidents whether they were your fault or not when renewing insurance. If you don't your insurance could be invalid.

Being involved in accidents raises your risk profile and therefore your base insurance premium before your (unaffected) NCD % is applied. The more accidents you are involved in regardless of fault the more your risk increases.

Insurance premiums have rocketed this year. Ours has nearly doubled 😭

tbh £13 va month increase doesn't seem to hefty, how much was the quote prior to the £13 being added
