Can i claim these bank charges back?

For years, my bank has charged me £25 everytime i go over drawn.

So i have paid a £6 current account 'protection' every month so if i do go over drawn, i dont get charges.

They also told me, years after i had my overdraft, that they would start charging me £7 for being having an over draft. Their reply was "all banks are now doing it".
So my option was to pay ny £450 overdraft off (which i couldnt/cant afford) or pay it.

Surely though they cant give you an overdraft for free and then tell you years down the line, were gonna start charging you for it.

So can i 1)claim my bank charges back?
2)claim back the £6 protection
3) claim back the £7 i pay just for having an overdraft?

Overdraft protection is a policy that pays your od if you lose your job (like PPI) not cover charges.

Op can you confirm what you mean by protection?

Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick there.

The OP described this so I think there are two aspects here.

If it the one that LuckyWoman has described and it was mis-sold then the OP could possibly claim those charges back.

That's what I hoped the OP would clarify PersianCatLady Overdraft protection policies are not nearly as well known as regular PPI and were not as widely applied/sold.

In my case I was forced to have a packaged bank account to obtain an overdraft facility with my bank, the bank lied it was the only way I could get an overdraft. Alongside that they applied OD protection and again I was told it was necessary even through self-employment and being a SAHM, I kept on and on questioning it and complaining, finally taking it to the highest level at the bank I could and eventually was given an almost lifechanging sum (to me) in compensation, made up of interest, compensation, returned bank charges where the OD protection had put me in overdraft and the charges themselves, a goodwill gesture on top (for stamp/phone call charges)

When I first looked into it even the good folk of MSE told me such a policy had never existed. I think the whole thing has long been scrapped but if anyone had it then I would urge them to check if it was suitable.

Not every bank sold it but Barclays and Lloyds certainly did.

So, that may help someone even if it doesn't apply to the OP

The £6 a month charge isn't protection. It's a particular kind of account and if someone is regularly using an unauthorised overdraft it means they don't get ridiculous charges.
OP you cannot reclaim any charges unless you can show that financial hardship. Yes banks can charge you whatever they wish. If they are changing the charges, as long as they give you notice of the changes, this is also perfectly lawful.
