There have been 5 separate incidents with that ride in 2 years? Shock

Hope those who rode it today are okay I the fullness of time.

I have read the thread tennis It's still very rare. A thread like this will of course draw people who've been affected. But statistically - you're still very unlikely to be unlucky enough to be involved in an incident like this.

The bblurred out guy on the dm site is probably the poor guy that's out cold. Don't know why everyone isn't blurred! I just fin d it si disrespectful and morbid.

There's journos all over Twitter trying to question people that were there. Just makes me feel really uneasy.

According to afriend of a friend who is on standby at the local hospital the injuries are bad.

:(

VivaLeBeaver · 02/06/2015 18:26

Yes they should blur everyone out.

But at least hopefully he's just unconcious, I was worried the media had realised he'd died.

I really hope not, there was rumour of one fatality but I think that was not related to the story. Unfortunately someone died in a car accident not far from AT and that was the mix up.

I presume they'll be taken to North Staff. Hospital.

From reading on the net it doesn't seem like a technical problem caused this, Human error more likely.

Yes, teenager killed in cheadle car accident, plus a lorry driver on the a50 today. Sad day.

I've not heard of a fatality at AT but someone said there is concern about limbs.

Saw that photo on itv news site earlier, unblurred. The guys have blood on their faces, possibly bloody noses, which is why I think the DM have blurred them.

The BBC report is now saying serious lower leg injuries which are not thought to be life threatening. The HSE will be looking very, very closely at this event I imagine.

Report
balletgirlmum · 02/06/2015 19:20

That ties in with what I was told earlier. There was talk of amputation. I really hope that's not true.

I can't believe that the four seriously injured teenagers are still stuck in the ride Sad. The crash happened at 2.10pmish. It'll be dark soon. I really hope that they have all been given sufficient morphine to not fully comprehend how long they have been trapped, iykwim. The distress must be immense. The rescuers must be exhausted too. Really hoping that all the injured will make full recoveries.

I read on the Alton towers twitter (I think it was), that everyone was evacuated. That was maybe an hour ago.

Report
CattyCatCat · 02/06/2015 19:51

I hope that is correct. My Sky News app updated at 7.20pm and was reporting the four were still at the scene. Far better if they have now arrived in hospital.

Absolutely horrifying. This has really upset me. Teenagers with their whole life ahead of them facing life changing injuries. It's so horribly unfair.

The thought of someone stuck on a roller-coaster for 4 hours, staring at their injured legs makes me feel physically sick, I can't believe they've been put through that.

Report
VivaLeBeaver · 02/06/2015 20:09

According to Twitter they have rescued everyone but the last ones only within the last hour. So a long, long time for them to be stuck there.

Awful. Poor people.

I saw this on the BBC news channel as it happened. Sent shivers down my spine. I bloody hate rollercoasters. Hope they're all ok.

Report
CattyCatCat · 02/06/2015 20:16

Can only hope that rescue took so long because the emergency services were trying desperately to and very hopeful of being able to save limbs. It is horribly upsetting, so random and unlucky.

I know I'll be too scared to get on any roller coasters this year now.

Report
CattyCatCat · 02/06/2015 20:19

It also makes you wonder how much damn harder it would have been to do the rescue if the incident had occurred a far higher level (the crash was 25ft up).

Report
BumpAndGrind · 02/06/2015 20:19

They got the most injured 4, who were at the front out first.

The rest, less injured or uninjured would have been done last.

Report
Nicknacky · 02/06/2015 20:22

I just read that the park is staying shut tomorrow.

Report
CattyCatCat · 02/06/2015 20:25

I bet many members of Alton Tower staff are shaken and absolutely devastated.

Report
seaoflove · 02/06/2015 20:39

Is that true Bump? Surely if the most injured were rescued first, it wouldn't have taken over four hours to free those with minor injuries?

I got the impression the extreme delay was to do with complicated crush injuries which would make removal extremely difficult. Poor kids.

Report
TwinkieTwinkle · 02/06/2015 20:42

Pointless to speculate until some sort of statement is released. It's changed from teenagers being seriously injured to people in their 20s.

Report
AuntieStella · 02/06/2015 20:42

I've just seen an update, which said it took 5 hours to get everyone off safely. There is no official word (rightly) on the triaging during the rescue.

The emergency services did an amazing job, 25 feet up.

Report
balletgirlmum · 02/06/2015 20:53

I know a member of the entertainments team. It must be awful for all the staff.
