How many different types of washing load do you do?

I live on my own so you would think washing clothes would be fairly straight forward.
But since I've bought sone new clothes for once I have become obsessed with how I do the washing. So I am now splitting it down into the following loads:-

  • dark colours and denim
  • anything coloured that doesn't fall into the above category
  • white
  • sports stuff (I do three classes per week so there's a fair bit)
  • bed linen (special fabric conditioner for this)
  • towels (don't use fabric conditioner)

So even if I only do one of each, that's 6 loads per week for one person (although I do use the mini load option on the washing machine)

I've gone completely mad, haven't I?

White cottons (towels, sheets, bathmat) x 1
Non-white cottons (ditto) x 3
General dark load x 2
Light colours x 0.5 or every other week
Sportswear x 2
Woollens x 1
Handwashing (rarely in summer, but once a week in winter due to hand wash woollens)
Technical (rarely, stuff that needs specialist washing like down, after a hillwalking or camping trip)
Teatowels / e-clothes etc. (as and when we build up enough to merit a half load - for some reason we have shedloads of the bloody things).

We do a lot of sport / outdoorsy stuff which generates a lot of washing for two people.

Same as Twerking above; darks, whites, colours. I sometimes divide the colours into lights and darks if it's a big load. Towels and bed linen go in with the appropriate colour load.

Towels inc tea towels and cloths (hot, no softener)
Bedding, sometimes with other whites if there aren't many, usually 40 but do a 60 deg wash every few washes
Whites 40
Coloureds 40
Darks 40

Sometimes a handwash or woollens load too.

Anything lower than 40 doesn't get rid of my sweat Blush

Family of 4, DDs school uniform is dark blue.

1 load of darks on 30 with powder for black clothes, including school socks
1/2 Loads of whites on 30, DH's shirts, school stuff and DDs sheets can't be washed hotter, just the way it is here.
1 mixed load at 40, colours and sports/ casual socks
1 load of towels and knickers at 60
I load of sheets at 60

My gym stuff goes in with everything else and I hand wash bras.

Dark stuff - I include jeans in this, but if I have a few pairs to wash I do them separately to avoid overloading.

Dark colours

Pale Colours

Bedding (straight off and into the washer, otherwise I keep putting off and end up with no clean bedding)

Towels

Baby clothes, although if there arent many I bung them in with the colours now DD's a bit older.

Towels

Bedding

Everything else

Except I rarely get the chance as DH does the laundry, he sorts it into lots and lots of piles... I let him get on with it!

White stuff, dark stuff, and sometimes mid-colour stuff, usually fortnightly. Towels go in with dark stuff.

Once in a while I also do a woollens wash, and I will wash things separately if I've got e.g. new red trousers (that was a wise decision, I could see the foam in the wash was pink.) Sport stuff goes with in with normal washes, but I don't do anything like rugby that would probably need its own wash. When I went down to the beach in the summer, I did wash towels and swimmers and stuff in a wash without anything else.

Clothing or
Sheets or
Towels or
a mixture of those in one wash.

Never bothered about darks or lights or whites. Probably about 3-4 lots a week here for 2 people.

Gentle wash @ 30deg for lights/darks

more vigourous 40 deg for most other things lights/darks

60 deg for bedding/towels/flannels/odd filthy item. T-towels in with if not a full load of either.

60 deg wash for pet towels & bedding- rinse on empty after to get out the rogue hairs < so with you there Brown Sauce>

I just do some every day/other day as I have a full load in a continuous cycle couldn't tell you if its a weeks worth or not.

Also depends on the drying conditions, can't bear the house looking like Widow Twankeys.

Coloured clothes - 40
White clothes - 40
Sheets/towels - 60 wash

If poss, I try to keep fleeces etc separate, as I don't think you are supposed to fabric conditioner with these. Also, try to put types of material together. Eg. Heavy clothing - jeans etc. however, not to bothered if all gets chucked in together.

Darks, whites, coloureds, lights. Bedding and towels I will not admit how often

Five or six loads per week on Fridays and Saturdays.

Am obsessed with getting whites white, tumble dry a lot. I have single handedly caused global warming/ polluted the oceans. Sorry.

All clothes = one load.
All linen = one load.

So 2 loads per week altogether.

(me, DH and baby)

Jeans (as I blame the heavier fabric for putting holes in everything else!)
Whites (with whitening sheet thing-y, not convinced it does anything tbh)
Dark Colours (30 or 40)
Pale Colours (30 or 40)
Bed Linen
Towels (no fabric conditioner)
Delicates (including bras in laundry bag)
Woollens

And like ouryve a special manky lunch bag cycle where DD2's lunch bag is washed all on its very own on the basis that it is far too disgusting to go in with anything else.

I think I might have gone completely mad too Grin

Darks- twice a week
Whites- once a week
Towels/tea towels-once a week
Bed sheets- once a week
Cat bedding- once a month

Soon I'll have cloth nappies to add too which will be 3 times a week.
That is a lot of washing.

Ive recently discovered 'colour catcher' sheets, that you put in the machine.

So I can wash dark & lights together. So far so good!

I don' t think washing tea towels in white pants is at all hygienic ,especially at temperatures under 60c.
In our house bedding and towels are all white and washed weekly.
Kitchen towels are virtually boiled a couple of times a week.
White, light and dark clothes washed separately each day.

We have two top loaders .The old one is used for manky stuff like dogs blankets , sandy beach towels and carseat covers etc.
