How many different types of washing load do you do?

I live on my own so you would think washing clothes would be fairly straight forward.
But since I've bought sone new clothes for once I have become obsessed with how I do the washing. So I am now splitting it down into the following loads:-

• dark colours and denim
• anything coloured that doesn't fall into the above category
• white
• sports stuff (I do three classes per week so there's a fair bit)
• bed linen (special fabric conditioner for this)
• towels (don't use fabric conditioner)

So even if I only do one of each, that's 6 loads per week for one person (although I do use the mini load option on the washing machine)

I've gone completely mad, haven't I?

1. Sheets and towels. Very hot wash, no fabric conditioner.
2. Dark stuff
3. Whites/very pale stuff.
4. Quick wash when I need it in a hurry
5. Sports stuff - some whites (in summer) and dark stuff the rest of the time as the swimming kits are both dark.

I do light things (ie white and pale colours)

Bright things (mostly red)
Sometimes dark and bright will get combined depending on what's in the washing basket.
I don't separate by type of garment just its colour.

I don't know why but I find threads like these fascinating. You would think it is such a straightforward thing but there are so many different routines.

Right had a think: 2 x towel wash; 2 x sheet wash; 1 x wash with pre wash for BIL's horrid work clothes; 1 x white wash; 2/3 colour wash. These all go on the 60 cotton / 1400 spin wash although occasionally I will do towels/sheets at 90. Plus 2 x gentle washes (lots of home knits and ds 1's school jumpers shrink easy) of 30 with 800 degree spin.

Use Aldi bio and fabric conditioner

There are 3 adults and 2 small children.

cantthink We can do just one load as we don't wear any whites (except DS' vests, but tbh I'm not too bothered if they're not bright white!) and we just have a few lights that do fine in a mixed wash with a colour catcher. We also only have dark or coloured linen. So I think the key is... have less light stuff

I always separate lights and darks, woollens/delicates and robust cottons, nappies, baby clothes, towels and bed linens.
If I have enough red/black clothes, they gets their own wash, where greens and blues would go in a different one.

Temps used are 70deg for nappies, 50 deg for cottons, 40 deg for woollens and delicates. I have a lovely variable temp washing machine
I've tried the 30 deg wash - doesn't get anything actually clean, IME.

This blows my mind - you can put it all in one load, at the same time?! Does it not ruin your light stuff?

Don't have a routine, I do it as and when.

Fabric softener seems to slightly stain-proof clothing (because it's fractionally less absorbent) and make things slightly easier to iron.

Sometimes if there is enough I'll do a silk load or split the mixed into dark/light.
I do use colour catchers though so I don't get much run and the colours stay ok.

I can always tell if I have forgotten to put fabric conditioner in as the clothes dont feel as nice. It also gives them a nice smell.

Family of 3 with one very sticky toddler who usually managed to mess my clothes up so they get washed more than they used to:
Darks (includes sports gear: cycle stuff and walking clothes mostly)
Lights
Bedding
I do a wash most days, about 3 darks washes a week, 2 lights and 1 bedding unless ds is unwell when its impressive if the machine gets turned off

Pre-ds bedding and towels were done together but now I do ask the bedding then stick the towels inwith the lights.

Household of 7, all sporty or into nature (ie covered in dirt)

I put on between 16and 21 washes a week.

But towels and bedding at 60
Everything else at 30 or less.
Whites.
Coloured.
