Landlord destroyed the garden

So I completely understand the responsibility, I am a tenant have been living here for 6 years. There is a small back abd front garden however from when I moved here, there were trees in the front and back garden, I have tried my best to keep them trimmed, but a retirement property ,on the street adjoining has made me aware that the ivy from the property is damaging their roof.

It's hard to see, but yes, I can see it, after this the lady came to my house and I reported to the property agent, they promised to sort it out , however, they have not tackled it at all!!

We had a front and back garden, they have thcompletely removed the back garden even though the Ivy has grown from the front garden!!

So we had trees in the back and the wall runs from the front to the back, however the back wall is not adjacent to any properties, we had bushes flowers and trees in the back garden, I was warned about waiting for work while I was at work.

I agreed, it was supposedly a trim back and remove the ivy from the next door property, front garden,which is where the ivy crawls over is untouched.

Back garden, which I entered into a tenant agreement with and was no problem had been completely removed...

I work long hours and was told to expect, am so upset, also what about the ivy that is still destroying the roof of (as I might add) a retirement property!! Who came around to me, and I promised I would get onto the landlord!!

OP do you have any photos of what it looked like before?

I'm sorry that the gardener didn't do as you expected and they haven't cleared the waste. I would contact the management company and ask for clarification of when this will be done. But I'm not sure that picture is helping your case here. You can quite clearly see the garden was not maintained well before hand. The pile of dying shrubbery at the bottom attached to the other house is dead give away and there is also some sort of trailing vines growing up the right side wall of another house. Again very destructive to brickwork and should be removed. And before you say it, yes I do rent. And I rented a terraced house with a not to dissimilar garden for over 10 years up until a few months ago. I've been the person next to a neighbour who can't be arsed to look after their trees/garden properly, and end up causing irreparable damage to the surrounding properties. As a tenant it is your responsibility to maintain the garden, that includes the trees.

The "gardeners" should really have taken the waste with them, I expect they couldn't as they don't have a waste transfer licence (assuming you are in the UK). The management company should arrange for it to be taken away, unless the landlord said they were happy for it to sit there and be a wildlife haven.

Just cut the front ivy off at its base. Once it dies it will also be much easier to remove. Also do the same with the ivy at the back in the photo you uploaded.

Ivy is invasive and destructive to buildings.

Make your own garden in pots and planters.

I understand your upset and frustration. It's such a waste.

If you have the landlords contact details, let them know. I'm a landlord and I definitely don't use managing agents because they simply take your money and don't care, as you've experienced here. Your landlord will want to know.

I once hired a contractor to replace some fencing that had fallen down. The tenant messaged me to say something wasn't quite right, so I drove over (2 hours) and found them pulling up fencing that was fine, and not the ones that had fallen over. You couldn't make it up.

We fired them and ended up replacing all of it ourselves. What I'm saying here is your landlord will probably be just as annoyed at the clear damage to the property and failure to fix the actual issue. They clearly just aren't being communicated to.

Tell them. Its likely you'll find the crap management company fired.

To be honest this is what I'm getting at. All of those cuttings look pretty dead and the surrounding walls do look like they've been damaged by overgrowth. I'm guessing that the contact with the property manager should have been made much sooner. I think OP might be afraid that the LL will be told about the state of the garden being beyond saving and is attacking as a form of defence. Otherwise how would it be her problem when the property manager has hired the person who chopped everything back?

It's nothing to do with you - you didn't arrange the massacre of the trees the
'gardeners' should have included the cost of removing the branches in their quote for doing the work.
I would probably contact the rent agent and say they need to get a gardener in to restore the back garden to a usable condition as that is what you rented initially. Also tell them they need to remove the branches as it is unsightly and dangerous (perhaps neighbours have children) and the neighbours are going to get someone to remove them and charge the agent. Stop being nice. Be difficult they have been idiots at the management company - sounds like one side not passing on the right information and they have hired some bunch of cowboys who didn't even know what they were supposed to be doing. I'm sure the landlord would be aghast if he knew. Can you contact him. Someone needs to lean on the management company to fix this.

BTW the above might not solve anything but no harm in trying.
