Kenwood Chef a901 ( vintage)

My latest food processor has broken and instead of buying another one I decided to get my 1970’s chef out of the attic where it has been since it was given to me 2 nd hand in the mid 90’s. Just had it sorted out at the repair shop and hopefully have saved a lot of money. Can’t believe they are nearly £400 new!
It has a k beater and a dough hook, but no manual or whisk, or any other attachments.
Is the manual useful to get? Might be able to find one on eBay.
Which attachment is for pastry, scones etc.?
Which attachment would I find useful now I don’t have a processor. Eg would a liquidiser be an asset?
Any ideas about where I can find list of attachments that will fit these old models?
Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't get a liquidiser - they aren't very good. Nutribullet or a stick blender would do a better job.

We’ve a Kenwood factory shop quite near us. It means you can get replacement parts and attachments easily.I had some attachments in my stocking for a few years back in the day.
I don’t use the liquidiser as it’s more faff than my stand alone liquidiser.
I do use the mincer quite a lot, the dough hook (I do double quantities of bread dough to get a good knead) and obviously the whisk. I use the mill quite a bit for curries etc. I have a pasta maker attachment but don’t use it much. The sausage maker we use a couple of times a year when the pig is delivered.

I find the liquidiser on my Kenwood much better than a stick blender. I haven’t used a nutribullet so can’t compare with that.

I have an old Kenwood chef that was my gran's that she never used - it was at my mum's house for a while when I was a student and in rented accommodation as I didn't have space for it and mum borrowed (permanently!) the liquidizer as she broke hers (similar model from the late 60s).

No idea what the model number is - will have to investigate and see if I can find someone locally to service it... This has been a great reminder of something else that needed to be done that never made it onto my to do list, so will see if I can get it done by chrstmas to do some baking... I have a vitamix which is great for blitzing stuff but the liquidizer is great too so really ought to get a spare jug for it too...

I've a feeling that I might have a potato peeler attachemnt too - kind of like a bowl lined with sandpaper. Not sure that it works very well - seem to remember my gran trying to use it and leaving it unattended for too long so ending up with a bowl of potato mush...

Do you remember the great spatulas that came with them too? They were fab, particularly back in the 70s before silicone was around to make utensils so much better. I think you can still get them in John Lewis... Might have to get another one as I have a very old one but a new one would be good too.

Ooh a new spatula I need one of those
I have bought a very pretty new cover to go over it as the original one has escaped into the far depths of the attic somewhere
Had hoped to pick it up today but had 3 grandchildren to mind/ do school runs with so getting it tomorrow. Nice repair man rang me today to say it’s all back together and working well.
Feel like I’m picking a friend up after a hospital stay!

It’s on the road that comes down from the Spire Hospital and Crematorium. Huge place on left as you drive down towards station.

I’ll tell my husband we are going for a country drive, teashop stop and a kenwood visit! Funnily enough I was in Havant a couple of weeks ago visiting the wool shop and also spend years visiting the cricket shop with my boys.

Dammit I thought this would be all about where to buy a vintage kenwood. My mum gave hers away. I was heartbroken. And I know kitchen aids are technically more beautiful but they are not the same. I have an ancient magi mix (brown flowers) which I keep thinking I will replace but nothing has ever come close. You can’t even ask for one for a wedding present anymore cause a)you have to get round to getting married and b) someone will buy the wrong one.

Apparently they cost 30 Guineas in the 70’s which is £400 in today’s money so have always been expensive.
You could look on eBay as I’ve now discovered they are reasonably straightforward to fix
Off to pick mine up soon...,
By the way , I’ve only just realised something really basic.....
The beater has a K shape in the middle for Kenwood and that’s why it is called a k beater. My husband says he is really worried about me!!

I read somewhere that you should aspire to buying yourself a nice piece of jewellery once in your life. Maybe same applies to kenwood chefs
Are you anywhere near the shop in Havant that cherrypavlova posted about?
Cherrypavlova, I may try pavlova this weekend when my eBay whisk arrives!

My best friend’s Mum had the “sandpaper” bowl for peeling spuds. She used it all the time. It rubbed the skin off, so much like giving them a very thorough scraping.

This is one of the originals, I think you put water in the bowl as well - currently ones are see through so plastic or glass (I don't have one for my Chef)

My husband is getting fed up with my ridiculous enthusiasm now I can tell! He says is there an attachment for washing socks. Silly man, I’ve had to look at lots of different specs of head torches this week, now that really was boring.

I had my mum's vintage one completely restored with a new motor and resprayed by this company, who I can recommend. It cost as much as buying a new one, but DM had bought every single attachment (2 of some) and I hate the idea of good stuff going to landfill.
It's just a shame I don't have her love and skill with food and baking.

Wow that’s great! I’m going to try out the k beater whisk and dough hook first and then decide whether or not to look out for other bits
Which do you use most of the extras?
