Kenwood Chef a901 ( vintage)

My latest food processor has broken and instead of buying another one I decided to get my 1970’s chef out of the attic where it has been since it was given to me 2 nd hand in the mid 90’s. Just had it sorted out at the repair shop and hopefully have saved a lot of money. Can’t believe they are nearly £400 new!
It has a k beater and a dough hook, but no manual or whisk, or any other attachments.
Is the manual useful to get? Might be able to find one on eBay.
Which attachment is for pastry, scones etc.?
Which attachment would I find useful now I don’t have a processor. Eg would a liquidiser be an asset?
Any ideas about where I can find list of attachments that will fit these old models?
Thanks in advance.

Just ordered some new rubber feet as I’ve read they compress over time and so the air doesn’t escape which can cause overheating.
Looked at a site last night that does restores and resprays! They look amazing
I sent them an email asking if they could date my machine by the serial number and apparently it is 1977/8. When I looked at the address of his workshop, to my surprise it is in my town about half a mile away from me!

Thanks for the list, what a lot to collect, I would need a whole cupboard devoted to attachments!

OK - official list of attachments from the 901 manual from 1980. ( Mine cost £55 I think, - my nanny gave us the money to buy it, but died 2 weeks before our wedding- so mine has sentimental value, which is why kept it after I bought a new one. Wish that restoration company had been about at the time)

Dough hook
Coffee grinder
Juice separator
Mincer
Sausage Filler
Slicer and shredder
The Liquidiser
The Cream maker ( I have one- to be honest it is just an emulsifier)
The can opener
The colander and seive
High Speed shredder and slicer ( Good for soup making or bulk coleslaw)
The potato peeler
Wheat mill
Bean and Peel slicer

I havee sent you the useful pages from the manual. I haven't sent the pages of attachments- but if you need them........
Or will a list do?

The K beaters were the best of having lots of cake mix left on to lick off GrinGrin

When I was little I used to think how lucky they were that the beaters had a K to work well and that they were called kenwood too.

In hindsight I’m guessing that wasn’t serendipity but planned 🙄😂

@Tifannylamp very glad to see that you no longer need a kid on the top of your potato peeler attachment GrinGrinGrin

We are going to end up so fat! I’ll have to share out the resulting products between all of the the family!

And I have the sandpaper bowl although the lid disappeared years ago. I put water in with the spuds and wrap the top with a cloth or tinfoil instead of the kid, which they no longer manufacture.

Wow that’s great! I’m going to try out the k beater whisk and dough hook first and then decide whether or not to look out for other bits
Which do you use most of the extras?

I had my mum's vintage one completely restored with a new motor and resprayed by this company, who I can recommend. It cost as much as buying a new one, but DM had bought every single attachment (2 of some) and I hate the idea of good stuff going to landfill.
It's just a shame I don't have her love and skill with food and baking.

My husband is getting fed up with my ridiculous enthusiasm now I can tell! He says is there an attachment for washing socks. Silly man, I’ve had to look at lots of different specs of head torches this week, now that really was boring.

This is one of the originals, I think you put water in the bowl as well - currently ones are see through so plastic or glass (I don't have one for my Chef)

Your absolutely right. Dh spend a gazillion pounds on a tv. I’m getting a vintage kenwood.

My best friend’s Mum had the “sandpaper” bowl for peeling spuds. She used it all the time. It rubbed the skin off, so much like giving them a very thorough scraping.

I read somewhere that you should aspire to buying yourself a nice piece of jewellery once in your life. Maybe same applies to kenwood chefs
Are you anywhere near the shop in Havant that cherrypavlova posted about?
Cherrypavlova, I may try pavlova this weekend when my eBay whisk arrives!

Apparently they cost 30 Guineas in the 70’s which is £400 in today’s money so have always been expensive.
You could look on eBay as I’ve now discovered they are reasonably straightforward to fix
Off to pick mine up soon...,
By the way , I’ve only just realised something really basic.....
The beater has a K shape in the middle for Kenwood and that’s why it is called a k beater. My husband says he is really worried about me!!

Dammit I thought this would be all about where to buy a vintage kenwood. My mum gave hers away. I was heartbroken. And I know kitchen aids are technically more beautiful but they are not the same. I have an ancient magi mix (brown flowers) which I keep thinking I will replace but nothing has ever come close. You can’t even ask for one for a wedding present anymore cause a)you have to get round to getting married and b) someone will buy the wrong one.

I’ll tell my husband we are going for a country drive, teashop stop and a kenwood visit! Funnily enough I was in Havant a couple of weeks ago visiting the wool shop and also spend years visiting the cricket shop with my boys.
