Gear fit2/fitbit - Can't wear one at work. Do they still collect step data when not worn on wrist?

I work in the NHS with uniform rules being "bare below the elbow". I'm trying to get a bit fitter and have found that tracking step counts etc is a really good incentive for me.
I currently use my phone (I have a Galaxy S6 with the S Health app) which tends to be in my pocket to track steps but would really like something that would track a bit more detail (heart rate etc) for when I'm not at work.
My question is when I am at work would these wearable devices work to track steps while in my pocket or even on my ankle. I understand the gear fit2 logs when it is not worn. I'd like to know if this is when it is not detecting movement and so would work in my pocket or if anyone has tried them on the ankle.

There is a fitbit which can be worn on a bra strap, I have a couple of friends who use that.

Sorry, apparently you clip it between your boobs and not to a strap. It's the Fitbit One.

I tie my Fitbit charge on to my ankle when I'm pushing the buggy. It still tracks my heart rate if I get it in the right spot and counts my steps. I look like a weirdo but I don't care. I just use string!

I wear a fitbit One, i clip it onto my left bra strap, quite high up. Its brilliant.

Bluetooth link to my phone, so that i can see my step count on my phone, instead of fishing inside my neckline. Its a good incentive fir me, too.

I wear my fitbit one INSIDE my bra! Not with the clip - take it out and then it is very small and slimline. You don't even feel it. It is also more accurate on your trunk than on your wrist for tracking steps.

Ah thanks, those look like good options and the fitbit one looks perfect for work. I'd quite like a heart rate monitor though.
Does anyone use the Gear fit2?

I put my Fitbit charge HR in my pocket when pushing the buggy or a trolley as it won't pick up my steps if I wear it on my wrist and it works fine

I have a misfit shine - comes with a clip so you can wear on bra or shoe or belt loop - anywhere really. It's waterproof and you don't have to charge it either.

I'm a nurse and wear my Fitbit in my tunic pocket. Tracks my steps without issue.

It obv won't track HR though. It needs to be in direct contact with skin.
