Oh bums, I think I've picked up a groin strain and I'm running a half marathon in two days! It's my first and I've been training for it since Feb so I'm really desperate to do it.

I've got a pulling feeling on the left side of my groin. It's been there very slightly for about 3 weeks but I did 5k last night and it was sore after the first mile. It's niggling today.

Painkillers and run through it? Am I just being a bit paranoid? I don't want to end up badly injuring it and having to rest up for weeks. WWYD?

Lots of ice and rest. Gentle stretches on the hip flexors and abductors. Ibuprofen might help. I'm a physio and a runner - if it was sore after a mile, I'd advise against running on it. I know its hugely disappointing, I had to pull out of my first half with a week to go but you've done the training and there will be other races soon.

I would do lots of (gentle) stretches and start it with the expectation of not finishing, and just see how it goes.

If it's niggling when not running, it probably needs advice from gp...

have you tried some stretches for hip flex it's to see if they help ?

But if it's painful after only a short distance, it would be best not to run the half .... 13.1 is a long way when something hurts and you could end up with more damage or even other injuries dye yo compensating ....Hmm

Groin needs rest, sorry

No painkillers are going to 'cut it' for 13 miles

Sorry, can't advise! but I'm sure you could do with some sympathy. Do you have a friendly physio you could ask?
