Covid

Did you feel crap after either the first or second covid vaccine? (MNHQ please don't move this thread!)

I did post in the Covid section but only had one reply.
I figured there will be much more NHS and other workers in chat that would have had the vaccination.

Plenty of my colleagues have had the first vaccination, only two so far have had the second and both said it wiped them out the second time. Fever, chills etc.

Someone replied on the thread I posted in the covid section to say she felt like that on the first but fine on the second.

My first is on Friday, I just wondered how others fared?

(The flu vaccine made me feel shite for a week. Like walking through mud all day.)

My stepfather has had his with no side effects. He's 80. My 78 year old mother wasn't sure on having it but is now going to as he's fine.

Why are people accusing others of being anti vaxxers when they’re only asking simple questions? I’ve seen it on so many threads.
There is no indication of op being an anti vaxxer. Do people want everyone to pretend that it’s all lovely and pretty and no one has any side effects when the reality is that some do?
Op elderly fil had a slight head ache and no other symptoms. Friends who’ve had it have had a mixture. Headaches and tiredness seem to be common. One friend had to go to bed with flu like symptoms for a couple of days. All fine now.

I know five people who’ve had it and they’ve reported no issues at all, apart from a couple of sore arms for 24 hours.

More than half of our department had to take time off, but I am guessing most of them have also had Covid in the past.
Helps to be aware of this, as poeople started booking their vaccin date on their day off, and not all going on the same day.

Hi there,
Thanks to those who reported. Now that the OP has a few more people interested in her thread we are moving it to the Coronavirus board.
We really are keen to hear people's thoughts re anti-vax trolls but we must insist that those thoughts are reported to us privately. MNHQ is well placed to investigate these concerns and takes them very seriously, please be reassured.

@Hortuslover

I’ve been told I must wait at least 4weeks from positive test before vaccine?

I'm 60 and I had a headache for a day and my arm felt like it was a bit bruised, my younger NHS colleagues were not well at all and a few of them needed a day off with dizziness, migraines and chills.
None of my patients who are over80 had any symptoms.
I don't know but it seems the younger ones are getting the worst symptoms.

Anecdotally people who have the Pfizer have a sore arm and people who have the Oxford can feel quite unwell/ fluey etc but only lasts 24-48 hrs.

I've had no side effects at all. According a pp that means it probably isn't working as well as it should. I'm buggered then aren't I?! And I'm 58 so guess that makes me old and irrelevant anyway.

I've had the Pfizer, 1st Vacc and no side effects.

Had first dose of pfizer vaccine on Sunday evening. Monday and yesterday I felt extremely tired, nauseous, mild occasional chills and had tender glands in neck. Sore arm at site of injection. I still carried on my normal duties but it was an effort.
I feel much better today.

My colleagues report similar experiences. My elderly relatives have had no side effects at all.
Would definitely do it again though.

Family member had Pfizer first dose, fine on the day, then 48 hrs max of feeling fluey (no fever), then right as rain.

Here is the list of side effects from the UK gov website link to gov.uk if you want to check what is common / uncommon.

V. Sore arm, still a bit tender 6 days on. Very mild nausea the afternoon of vacc - had it at 2pm, nausea came around 4, for a couple of hours. Otherwise fine. 1st dose, Pfizer.

I had my first vaccine on Monday, other than a sore arm I've felt okay.

My friends/colleagues have reported various degrees of side effects including feeling very tired, headaches, aches and pains and feeling like they had flu.

It's now being suggested at work you should have the day off following the vaccine so they must be getting a lot of reports of side effects!!

Interesting theory re worse side effects if you've had covid, that would make sense thinking about the people I know who have had it.

FIL age 80 has had both Pfizer jabs now. No after effects when he had the first. Day after the second he felt rough - flu like symptoms and a swollen arm but was fine by he next day.

@Izzy24 really? I did mention yesterday that I’d had it very recently and nothing was said said about, if anything she said it’ll add to the immunity I’ll already have at the moment with having the virus recently.

Report
TheAnswerIsCake · 20/01/2021 11:59

I had Pfizer yesterday. Feel fine, just got a sore arm which started about 3 hours after the jab. I had an antibody test this week too, which was unsurprisingly negative as I’m pretty sure I’ve not had Covid 19.

The reports of people feeling ill after second dose if they were fine after the first, plus many people who know or suspect they’ve had Covid feeling rough after just one dose, makes me wonder if it’s because they already have antibodies and thus are mounting a much stronger response to the vaccine. Many symptoms of some illnesses are a result of what our body does whilst fighting it, so this seems plausible to me.

@Hortuslover - yes definitely told this. But whether that is local or national policy I don’t know.

My Auntie (mid 80s) has had her first dose of the Pfizer one. No side affects other than she said her arm and shoulder were painful - probably worse in her case as it was in her disabled arm which she can't move. I spoke to her a few days later and she's clearly been telling everyone to have it as soon as offered.

Changechangychange · 20/01/2021 12:08

I had a sore arm for about three days, otherwise fine. First dose, previous infection, still Ab +ve.

It was a very sore arm! But nothing like the 8 weeks of fevers, cough, complete exhaustion, exertional dyspnoea and 5kg weight loss I had with “mild” covid.

@Sparklingbrook Groundhog Day? Have there been loads of threads in chat asking about side effects? I haven't seen any. But I do spend more time in AIBU then chat. And as I said in my OP, I tried the coronavirus forum first!
