Lockdown goals?

Hi all,

I know everyone is feeling a bit down. I have plenty of reasons to spiral down negativity and my mental health is rather fragile, so I decided to give myself few goals for this lockdown to keep me in focus through this chaos. I thought some of you might like to share yours too ?

1- potty train my toddler!
2- wean my toddler
3- renovate the bedrooms
4- start writing a book
5- cycle 10 hours combined.
6- Renew wardrobe

Work 13 hour shifts, 5+ days a week in full PPE. Try not to bring it home to my children. Just like last time.

I’m coming back off furlough and setting up my home office - so I’ll be busier this time but with no home ed!

My goals are to complete 5 mins of Duolingo every morning and use hand weights on my desk every time I start losing focus on a work task! I’ll either be super focused or end up with smaller bingo wings.

Thanks OP for this thread! I’m not a natural goal-setter or finder-of-the-silver-lining so it’s not an approach I’d have thought of for myself.

Like many, my time is pretty thinly stretched already, so I want to set realistic goals for myself. I’m going to get back into the 16:8 habit (and hopefully as a by-product, eat less sugar and waste less money!) and find 10 minutes to properly stretch my whole body out every day.

Planning to do some goal-setting with my 8yo as well now - feels like a constructive way to approach the various disappointments this new lockdown will hold for him.

Main goal try and not catch Covid-19 via kids from school.

Work out how to make a lockdown 10th birthday ok.

Return to jogging in mornings whilst they are at school.

Cosy up the house!

Eat well, take vitamins, read more, internet less.

Drink less than last time but that should be easy as it was too easy to have a cool glass in the sunshine.

Doesn't really feel like lockdown this time, DH will be in the office, kids at school. Only the fun bits removed.

Exercise every day - early morning jogs by myself 2 or 3 days a week, take the baby out for a walk on the other days

Try to meet up with single friends who live alone for walks

Play music every day

Use the slow cooker

Eat less sugar

Lose half a stone

Dye my hair

Look for extra evening/weekend work for the spring when my maternity leave ends, so I can go back to my day job only part time and have more time at home with DS

My personal goals are
To declutter the house, and decorate.
Lost a stone
Get the DC eating more vegetables even if I have to disguise them
Get more confident driving
Go running 3 times a week

I think people are being a bit harsh on @OhMyDarling. There are plenty of us who's only goal is to survive, whether that's mentally or physically.

Agree.

That’s the point of the thread. Surviving.
Unless you’ve lived with severe depression, or love someone who has it, you really have no idea how important tiny, positive steps are.
Or you wouldn’t be pissing all over someone’s list that they’ve titled ‘Lockdown goals’ instead of ‘Steps away from the edge of the abyss’

My goal is to have my DD alive at the end of this.
Her goals include getting up before 12, leaving the house for at least an hour in daylight, knitting a scarf, learning how to make perfect baked fish and persuading me to decorate my sitting room in orange and black for November.
If it slows her spiralling, or helps in any way, I’m happy.

Start your own threads and avoid ones that annoy you and make you respond spitefully.

Love this thread idea! No idea what all the negative Nancy's are complaining about... must be some fun at a party!

Mine are:
Continue decluttering and home improvement
Save money and cook from all the sh!t already in my cupboards and freezer
Read more
Work on positive thinking and self improvement
Try new recipes
Do yoga at home for free
Do some Christmas crafts and organising.. may not be a priority but something to focus on is huge as mentally the last lockdown /this year has destroyed me!

I’ve got to go to work but also have some goals:

Keep up the exercise now gym is closed
Prepare for the unknown that is Christmas
Keep thankful for my situation and thankful to our wonderful teachers

@OhMyDarling asthma isn’t a risk factor thankfully. In March they didn’t know so much about the virus but now data shows it isn’t so much a risk Flowers

I am a bit rubbish at this goal making as it just makes me all sad when I don't achieve them.

However I would love it if I could get on to of all the piles of stuff around my house.

I achieved nothing during lock down 1 due to working 60 hour weeks as a pharmacist. I quickly decided I wasn't to come out of it any healthier/slimmer/house tidier etc, so just decided to come out slightly wealthier.

I've decided this time around to value my mental health and physical wellbeing slightly more, so will only be working 30-40 hour weeks.

I have bought a treadmill, and aim to complete couch to 5k on it by Christmas (it arrives on Thursday).

I am going to have 3 alcohol free days a week, and eat my 5 a day everyday

I will complete the decorating I started 3 years ago, and will have white skirting boards throughout the whole house.

My goals are slightly more than 4 weeks worth of goals, but I am planning for lock down to be extended/repeated through to Feb/March and want to ensure I have enough to keep me occupied!

  1. Exercise 5 times per week for at least 40 minutes
  2. Play one board game as a family per week
  3. Keep going with my German lessons (and be better at actually doing the homework)
  4. Finish decorating the bedroom (I started in May Blush - just the skirting boards, radiator and door to go)
  5. Go outside every day

DH & I will be at work throughout so I’m not sure we’ll feel like we have that much time and I’m also conscious of not wanting to feel like a failure if all we manage to do is survive but I’m hoping to:

  1. Carry on with weight loss (half a stone to go)
  2. Walk / exercise every day

French on Duolingo every day. I live in France so knowing French would be helpful Grin

I’m back crocheting again so will do 4 rows daily

Yin yoga before bed every night

10,000 steps a day and standing whilst working at the laptop

Learning to watercolour paint

My life will be unchanged if this is only for 1 month.

  1. Don't catch Covid at work
  2. Try to bike to work (I'm hopeful the roads will be less busy but I probably fooling myself)
  3. Try not to order too much from Amazon.

  • keep working as best I can and get a funding bid in. I know redundancies are coming at my workplace, but I'll just have to perform at my best and hope. It's all we can do.
  • Work on my exercise, particularly strength
  • Work on my guitar skills
  • Fight my anorexia better, and not lose any more. I should gain really but I can't cope with that at the moment. So maintain, listen to hunger and don't give into the 'just a little more, because...(insert rationalizations)
  • See my family as much as permitted by rules. I live alone and my doctor has stated I can have contact with certain people for support due to mental health issues.
  • Do not drink alcohol or use sedatives of any kind.

Study GCSE Maths... bought a revision guide from charity shop yesterday. Got an ok grade C in 1990, but I'm thinking of doing a science degree with the OU next year, so I'll need a massive refresher dose of maths. Watch maths & science Khan Academy tutorials.

Get back into learning a language on Memrise. I noticed on my last CC statement my membership had been renewed, so I might as well make the most of it. Hopefully travel restrictions will be eased and we’ll be able to visit the country next year.

Sort the garden out and get hens. Had a lovely surprise a couple of weeks ago, I found I had some beautiful rainbow carrots I had planted in the April lockdown… lovely purple, watermelon and golden coloured ones… felt so proud to cook them in a shepherd’s pie 😊

Get into fermenting vegetables like sauerkraut and kimchi. There’s strong evidence it really helps the gut microbiome and immune system, possibly partly explains the lower covid case numbers in places like Japan & S Korea? Also buy some kefir grains online and start fermenting milk… I fell out of the habit in January and killed off my old lot.

Start making a patchwork quilt, I have lots of lovely cotton fabrics from old clothes, jumble sale clothes and fat quarters I've bought over the years, but never got over the inertia of deciding on a pattern.

Declutter unwanted clothes and books… have a ton. Fold and tidy away the clothes mountain in the spare room Kondo-style. Get the house cosy and tidy for Christmas. 🎄

You really have no idea what people are coping with. Firstly, my job is beneficial to society - perhaps not as immediately as the doctors and nurses currently working in hospitals, but asbsolutely in the broader scheme of things, and I am still working full time. Secondly, in setting goals that help maintain my mental health, such as it is, I'm working extremely hard not to be an additional burden on the healthcare system or cost it money, which I certainly have done in the recent past. Many people on this thread are in similar conditions. I am truly, truly trying my absolute hardest. Sorry if that's not altruistic enough I guess.

@SaltyAndFresh yeah, that's a good point, thank you. Adding to my list: join the local mutual aid Facebook group & see if there's anything I can do through that. Wasn't able to do much during the spring lockdown as I was busy having a baby but now is a good time to get more involved in the local community & volunteering. Helping others will keep me busy and be good for my mental health too as a bonus.

Not to let my mental health get to me as I worked through the last lock down in a supermarket now I work in a care home which has a few covid cases and seen 2 people pass away from covid this week and having to keep going is my aim

-Decluttering all my drawers and cabinets indeed.

  • avoid sugars by eating small portions and at specific times.
  • maintain a daily and evening routine which includes some positive affirmations and some journaling to keep my mental health in check.





Feel guilty that I triggered some people or made them feel worse. This wasn’t the intention and I often used fancy words like “upgrade wardrobe” which usually means selling my old clothes and buying from everything5pounds.com because I actuallt don’t have anything that fits my postnatal body. My budget for decorating is around a grand total of 20 pounds made of selling stuff we no longer need.. but I need to rearrange and decorate my kids room so they move out of mine and it looks age appropriate.

Please keep the unkindness in check, I wrote this thread in the spirit of preventing any panick attacks that I ended up with last lockdown and this is my way of coping. Might not be for everyone!
