I am so confused re work and SI rules

So I am symptomatic. Have had high temp and sore throat since the weekend. On Monday I started to SI for the requisite 7 days and told work etc.
I have dh and teen DCs who now have to SI for 14 days and as far as I am aware I need to be home for 14 days too as I don’t live on my own.
However, the advice is so contradictory if you look at the official government literature online, and work are saying I need to be back on Monday if I’m well enough.
Who is right?

Thanks to whoever provided the gov link and yes we are in Scotland but nhs uk says similar.

I would show them the gov uk advice, OP.

Splitsunrise we are in that position. I am on day 10 (although last Thur I was told by PHE that I could go to work and "there are a lot if things about this time of year" Shock )

One child is on day 6 and oldest has just started to cough but no temp yet.

@JustDanceAddict Can you post links or direct quotes? We're all looking at lots of things (including links on this thread) so it's hard to help you from references to things like 'the first bit' and 'the last bit'.

From www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection :

"if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

It is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community.

For anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14 day isolation period. (See ending isolation section below for more information."

And from the 'ending isolation' section below:

Ending self-isolation and household-isolation
If you have been symptomatic, then you may end your self-isolation after 7 days. The 7-day period starts from the day when you first became ill

If living with others, then all household members who remain well may end household-isolation after 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day illness began in the first person to become ill. Fourteen days is the incubation period for coronavirus; people who remain well after 14 days are unlikely to be infectious.

After 7 days, if the first person to become ill feels better and no longer has a high temperature, they can return to their normal routine. If any other family members become unwell during the 14-day household-isolation period, they should follow the same advice - that is, after 7 days of their symptoms starting, if they feel better and no longer have a high temperature, they can also return to their normal routine.

Thanks SallyLovesCheese -
So I sent the first bit in quotes re all members being SI, work have sent back the second quoted section.
They are from the same document so it makes no sense to have differing advice.

I don't think they contradict each other.

Where's the contradiction?

JustDanceAddict · 18/03/2020 11:51

In the first para it says all household members need to SI for 14 days even the person who was first symptomatic.

In the ‘ending isolation’ part it says the person who was ill can go back after 7 days.

That is contradictory.

Yes, but then it specifies a caveat for those displaying symptoms. It could be written slightly more clearly but I think the meaning is plain.

It's basically that if you've got symptoms, you've already completed the incubation period, so can half your isolation time to 7 days.
