it varies yearly depending on my colour scheme. this year it will be plain foil papers in red gold and green, with co-ordination ribbon

I don't
I purchase wrapping services in shops / online options - these are remarkably effective
I have also been known to bribe colleagues into wrapping for me
Otherwise it is a box / bag affair
I am dire and I hate the whole sorry affair associated with it, including the dismal end result that mocks me

I love wrapping presents but only wrap them prettily for people I know who appreciate pretty wrapping! I love all themed but I'm trying to use up my huge supply (I once bulk brought, it was a bargain but enough to wallpaper and carpet the whole house several times over!). I've kept decorations which we don't like (doesn't look right on our tree) and attach them with ribbon. My favourite way to wrap is to have a few different sizes, like them up and then tie them into a bundle and a big bow done with fabric ribbon. I did 30 gifts for my friends 30th, I wrapped them all in brown paper and string. One gift in brown paper and string doesn't look good IMO but look stunning on mass

Where at all possible, sheets of wrapping paper. Most presents will take a half or whole sheet, so one easy tear and no cutting. Makes it a doddle.
Annoyingly it's hard to find sheets nowadays except on stalls on Oxford St, but we inherited a sideboard a while back with a mountain of 1970s amazingly naff wrapping paper sheets, so we're working through that - it's quite entertaningly hideous! But loads of prezzies in clashing colours are de rigeur when you have small children.

I stock up on non-Christmas rolls at the 99p shop when they have cool patterns. And dark colours to ensure nothing shows through. I tend just to write names on the back of a scrap of paper and tape on, rather than gift tags.

And I try to avoid 'gift wrap' made of plastic because it's horrible to try to fold and you can't recycle it. Can't recycle paper with foil or glitter on either, which is a great reason to avoid Yet More Bloody Glitter at Christmas (have kids and neices/nephews all at the age of producing loving glue+glitter encrusted artwork...)

Really large presents get hidden behind the bed under lots of linen (assumed to be usual mess...) and appear under the tree on Christmas morning.

I didn't know you couldn't recycle paper with glitter on

Last year I did brown paper then wrapped a strip of xmas paper around it and then several wraps lf parcel string. I used parcel tags which I had stamped on one side with a "manuscript" stamp.

Need to decide on this years wrap!

I LOVE wrapping presents- recently bought a dedicated 'gift wrap' box to keep everything in together so I'm all set!

One year I did all presents in newspaper with gold or silver spray painted blobs on and white raffia tied round, but I often stick to red and brown paper themes. One year was black with white sparkly tissue paper as a partially covering second layer and purple raffia as the boarder. I have bought a few sets of battery fairy lights so I can do them in-between the wrapping paper and tissue paper etc. I really enjoy it!

Eden where did you buy a gift wrap box from? Is there a specific product, or just a box that fits everything? Sounds like the sort of thing I need in my life.

Inspired by this thread I've been looking at butcher's twine and christmas stamps.

Last year I bought 500 tiny little jingle bells (eBay) and attached them to ribbons or coloured threads wrapped around the presents.

What's not to love about giving your present a shoogle and hearing jingle bells? Grin

My sister in law must hold the award from most elaborate present wrapper.

They are always in the thickest (usually brown) paper and have come in baskets lit with (battery) fairy lights, with beautiful ceramic, metal or glass baubles & bells attached to the ribbons or raffia, there might be liquorice allsorts threaded onto twine wrapped around them, or christmas biscuits as tags, or painted wooden initials. Even the dog's present comes beautifully presented with a dog biscuit tag! Sometimes mine will be wrapped in organza with a marabou ribbon trim. They always take pride of place under our tree as they are works of art!

She wouldn't dream of going into M&S and buying their 3 for 2 with matching tags as I do.

OvO That might well be my favourite idea so far!

Is your NN meant to look like an owl btw?

Report
OvO · 25/09/2013 20:34

Yes it is. Grin hardly anyone seems to notice!

Puffy - But where does she find the time?! It would take me all year to wrap like that, much as I would like to!

Report
TessTackle · 25/09/2013 20:47

I a) look like an owl
And b) have a Harry potter obsession; of course I noticed Wink

LazyFaire, she doesn't work & her kids are older.

But even if that wasn't the case, she'd still do it as she just loves it.

I didn't notice the owl, until OvO pointed it out on another thread.

Generally drunkenly and badly on Christmas Eve but I was an uber-ponce last year and two special people in the life of DC had theirs wrapped in (downloaded and printed) Christmas Carol sheet music with a red ribbon and a little jingle bell. I wanted to keep them, they were so pretty.
