2 year old funding

Ok covid aside for a moment

I'm wondering if anyone can help me...

So I'm not working at the moment I have a 3 year old and 16mo twins.

My eldest is going to school in September and I want my twins to start Pre school when they are 2 as I qualify for the funding

BUT

How do they assess your income? My husband had to decrease his hours in august permanently so for this tax year April 2021/2022 his wages will be like £16400. Before he earned about £19600. We qualified for tax credits for both years though

Will we still be able to claim the funding and they will see his decrease in wages? He has a new contract with confirmation of hours etc Do they put last years wages into account? I know they need my NI number though

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am keep to get them into a Pre school ASAP so they can get some interaction and different experiences in life

Thanks

I think you need to rephrase how rude your message was @FTEngineerM There’s no need. You can get your point across without it.

If the OP is going back to work full or even part time, then she won’t be eligible for the 2 year funding whether her husband forfeits the bonus or not because their household income with be too high (as it already is now). Most two income families have to pay for childcare, this isn’t a unique situation.

The point is, she would live to access a fund put aside for vulnerable and deprived children. Whether she and her family fit that category or not is at the discretion of the Local authority who fund it and you are correct that I don’t believe people should play the system to access services that they wouldn’t normally be entitled to. We have cut offs and thresholds for a reason.

Ok. Spoke to another person from the council today. Who was extremely more helpful. She said the way it would go is two ways

  1. national insurance number goes through - job done Or
  2. national insurance number goes through and declines

But she said on a decline in this instance to appeal right away on the ground of multiple birth. Obviously I system doesn't know that. Then they would look at the case individually. If they want to see the HV reports etc of the girls development etc they can - I've got nothing to hide and also that way I can explain the income situation with to hubby and if they are so inclined I'll show pay slips. As someone else said they did mention an 'allowance' amount for twins. Don't know if this means able to earn a little more??

I feel for you. Looking back at your thread, if you did actually go back to work.. You'd basically be working to pay for childcare and that's it. I think you need to realise that the 2 year old funding it is primarily for vulnerable children. I mean that in the nicest way possible. Although your twins may not be meeting milestones.. They aren't in a household that's vulnerable (going by what you've said) vulnerable children could come from a domestic violence household, care of the local authorities, been subject to parents with addictions etc etc. To put it in perspective. My daughter is 1 of only 2 children in a nursery or 30 or so 2 year olds that have received 2 year old funding and it was because she was classed as "looked after" by the local authority. I'm not saying you or your children don't deserve the funding or anything like that.. But that funding is almost always awarded to children who are subject to some kind of vulnerability.

I think regards that side of things no we don't meet the criteria but the income threshold we would - £500 bonus. This doesn't include anything extra you can earn for twins either

I will put that case forward with the change in income and any payslips and evidence needed

The bonus is awarded in April and so far I think hubby will take unpaid days instead of the money
