The Big Lesbian Picnic Party — Women Only • Real Vibes

LCommunity · 09/06/2025 17:56

Just wanted to share something that our group is running this Saturday in London, in case anyone here might be interested in joining us. It’s women-only (lesbian and bi), no tickets, no agenda, just a very real gathering for anyone who’s felt pushed out, erased, or like the spaces that used to be ours are gone.

We lost our venue. The council blocked us. They spent millions on a supposedly “inclusive” LGBTQ+ centre. When we asked to rent a disused railway arch and were told no – even though it was legal, female-only, and community-led (under schedule 3).
So we built something ourselves. It’s not a protest. It’s not a club night. It’s a pavement bar. Folding chairs. Cold drinks. A small bluetooth speaker. And women who understand.

It’s happening this Saturday, 14th of June, from 4.00pm to 10.00pm at Potters Fields Park (right by Tower Bridge). Forecast says 24 degrees. We’ll have beer, cider, and lemonade. Four tables, twelve chairs, and whoever turns up.
Come alone or with friends. Bring a picnic blanket or just show up. There are no cliques, no speeches, no pressure. Just space.

If you want to chat beforehand or see who’s going, here’s the open WhatsApp group: chat.whatsapp.com/FCsLSOzgV4C2yUGplyQr5m

(This one’s public – our private ones are for verified members only via thelcommunity.com.)

If you want to understand why this even needs to exist, this explains it better than I can here: thelcommunity.com/the-lie

They wouldn’t give us a roof. So we licensed the street.

Ah, I'm in Potters Field for unrelated reasons on Saturday! I shan't be turning up because, well, bloke. But if I spot you all I shall grin, knowing you're doing a good thing.

IOnlyWantSexMoneyPowerAndRevenge · 10/06/2025 09:48

Good luck. I hope you get some good positive turn out.

Appreciate that — thank you. Here’s to a turnout full of power, peace, and just the right amount of revenge.

Respectfully standing back and grinning in support? That’s the perfect combo. Thanks for the kindness — we’ll keep an eye out for that smile.

Fair question and a weirdly common one lately. But no, this is real. Human run, women led, painfully manual at times. We just reply quickly because we respect every message. The event’s real, the venue’s real (even if it’s just folding chairs on pavement), and the replies are real too because women showing up for each other should never look fake.

Just to introduce myself properly — I’m Rachelle, one of the human admins behind L Community. Not a bot, not ChatGPT, just a very real women doing very real admin at slightly ridiculous hours.

It's these — — — —

ChatGPT loves them, uses them all the time, so these days when people find a human using them it sends their spider senses tingling.

That means a lot — thank you. Your daughter’s absolutely welcome, and so are you. This is exactly the kind of space we’re fighting to protect — where women can show up together, freely and safely.

Totally fair callout — and honestly, I do love using them. Guilty.
It’s become muscle memory at this point, but you’re right they can trip that uncanny wire. I really appreciate you flagging it, and I’ll try improving. Promise there’s a real woman behind the screen, just typing too fast sometimes.
Thanks again genuinely.

I have just checked trains and stuff.
Very easy for us to reach as well (plus I have a 60+ Oyster now, so money saved, goes towards drinks)

Can I just ask - why does your website say that all the money people donate goes into an asset-locked community interest company, when L Community Limited is just a private limited company with Jennifer Watson as the only shareholder?

Datun · 10/06/2025 10:25

Personally, I'm assuming that when opening an actual bar (and it's a fantastic idea, and I'm sure more will start to emerge), the practicalities must be enormous.

So a pop-up lesbian only bar, sounds not just like a good solution, but very cool.

It will all be about how many people show up and that unique vibe that only women can generate.

And I don't know if it's possible, or if it's the intention, but a pop-up bar, gaining a reputation, but showing up in different places sounds fantastic.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 10/06/2025 10:26

Well done you! Have a lovely day x

I hope you all have a lovely time. I'm straight but it was the homophobia of the Cotton Ceiling that first alerted me to the dangers of gender ideology. I have massive time for lesbians, who have probably been the worst affected group in the chaos of the past decade or so.

One of the nicest things about this whole fiasco is the solidarity from straight sisters and indeed brothers. It’s been lovely x

lcakethereforeIam · 10/06/2025 11:08

Nowhere near, but I'll raise a glass to you anyway 🍻

Everyone, please click “Attend” even if you’re not sure yet. It helps boost visibility and shows others it’s real:

That’s brilliant and I love that the saved Oyster money is going to drinks! Genuinely excited to have you both there. It means a lot when women plan it in that’s exactly how we grow this together.

Here’s the clarification:
L Community is governed through a legal CIC (Community Interest Company) structure for all donations and assets. The private limited company you’ve seen is just the shell used for setting up certain legal and operational frameworks not the donation route. Every donation is ringfenced, asset-locked, and publicly reported through the CIC.

We’d love a permanent venue but the truth is, we were shut out of public funding and blocked from the space we asked for. So we’re starting on pavements and earning trust in real time.
The pop-up format’s not just a workaround it’s become a kind of resistance.

That solidarity really has been everything. It’s one of the few things that’s made the last few months feel bearable knowing we’re not alone in seeing what’s happening. Thank you for standing with us.
