do nursing/maternity bras EVER fit?

My regular underwire bras (36E) fit nicely. The middle part of the bra sits against my breastbone, the straps don't dig in, there is a reasonable amount of support etc etc.

Nursing/maternity bras on the other hand... I can't seem to find one which sits against the breastbone. I've tried 36E, 36F and 36FF. Is that just a feature of non-wired bras? Do I have to put up with a mono-boob for pregnancy and breastfeeding?

I should be better at this. This isn't even my first pregnancy! Maybe I just gave up last time... I can't remember!

Ah, I just realised you were looking for maternity bras, I wore sports bras or non wired normal bras (I had a lace one from M&S which was nice) as none of the maternity bras I could find fitted at all, they kind of squished my boobs into a tyre from armpit to armpit. I think it depends a lot on your shape though, so try a few styles/brands.

Lol yes my boobs change size a lot depending on when DD last feed So nothing ever fits really coz I got ones that don't dig in when I'm engorged.

I never understand why people tell you to get measured properly for a nursing bra - my boobs changed on a daily basis when I was breastfeeding. I think I had about 6bras varying from a 32 d to a 34e and I just wore whichever fitted best!

If I manage to resolve ds's feeding issues and carry on I might well invest in an Anita bra being as you lot think they're all so great!

It's also good to get measured properly. You may need to go down a back size. I went from 34 f/ff in late pregnancy to 30 h at about 12 weeks post birth after being fitted in bravissimo. Non wired bra now much more supportive, much less monoboob.

I just bought an Anita underwired bra and it is amazing. I feel normal again. It actually holds my boobs up somewhere where they sghould be instead of round my stomach.

Sooo glad it's not just me! I had a Hotmilk bra last time around which I loved - but I think it can't have sat against my chest. I think I just liked it because it was pretty (shallow much)

I am actually OK in my existing bras for now. And if this pregnancy is anything like the last one, I'll be OK in them right up until close to the end. You're right - I should just stick. But I WILL be trying Anita underwires for feeding. Failing that, it will be back to pretty-but-not-wonderfully-fitting Hotmilk!

Hot milk brand are lovely but the non-wired ones do not fit against your chest though they do still give you a nice shape despite this flaw. Cake brand wired feeding bras are nice too and fit snugly against your chest between the cups as well. I think non-wired bras generally do not fit very well against the chest and wired ones are better for that - so buy a wired feeding bra if that's what you prefer. I think the wire is softer and more flaxible than in an ordinary bra.

So you are at the 'maternity' stage now, right? I'd keep wearing your normal bras if they fit, or invest in a couple of larger sized ones. I wore underwired bras right through my second pregnancy, and until about 8 months in my first (the bump was higher and it started to dig in). If they fit, and don't press on breast tissue, go for it.

Afterwards, I recommend taking a deep breath and spending the fortune on some Anita underwired nursing bras. They are the only nursing bras I have found for the large of breast which give you two breasts instead of a matronly bosom. I bang on about them every time someone mentions nursing bras. Available from figleaves. Last pregnancy they only had the pattern ones in my size. I have just invested in two of the smooth ones and they are amazing. Like a proper, normal bra. Yeay!

I found Hot Milk to be the most flattering, but only the ones with the a frame arrangement, not the ones where the whole cup drops.

IME no - they don't ever fit! Although admittedly I haven't tried every nursing bra on the market but I have tried a lot. In the end I settled for nursing secret support vests. I'm probably too large chested this time round to really get away with it (they aren't by my knees or anything...) but I was wasting too much time searching for a bra that would actually work for me.

It is a bit of a shock (although a very pleasant one) if I go out without the baby and put on one of my underwired bras though.

I had this problem. However I can confirm that my m&s nursing bras fit very well. But you may be different!

If your bra fits well and doesn't compress the breast tissue, then I would just carry on wearing it and not bother with the maternity monstrosities. You can convert normal bras to BF bras with a couple of bikini clasps after the baby's born...
