C-Section V's Natural Birth in 1st time pregnancy with twins

Hi everyone,
It's very early days for me as I'm only just 12 weeks, but I'm looking at options for the birth. I have twins which look to be Fraternal, 2 sacs, 2 placenta's etc.

Assuming that both birth options are available (I'm aware that the decision may be taken out of my hands if they are in the wrong position or if there are complications)I'm trying to work out which route to go for.

From what i've discovered so far i've got some secific areas of concern...

With C-section i'm particulary concerned about the length of time for full recovery and the impact on the babies respiratory systems of not passing through the birth canal...

With VB i'm concerned about labour taking so long that one or more of the babies get into difficulties then having and emergency C-section (particulalry as this will be my first labour). I'm also worried about the long term effects of things like incontinence, tearing, feeling 'looser' (sorry for TMI) etc.

Does anyone have any real life info around either option - hopefully from a 1st time labour with twins perspective so that I can feel a bit more informed? Please be as honest/graphic as possible as I'm struggling to find real accounts that aren't either embellished for effect or played down to promote one option over another!!!

It's just so confusing when you start googling things as everyone has different experiences and views - some people over-egg things, some under play them...

Totally agree about keeping an open mind and seeing how everything pans out.. lots and lots of stages to get through first think, but probably one of the areas i'm most worried about!

Victoria, hi and congrats! I'm sure someone with experience of birthing twins will be along v.soon.

However, I would really recommend keeping an open mind to either method until a few weeks before.

Then you will know the babies positions, any feelings or complications that may crop up during the PG etc., that may shape your decision further. With the benefit of hindsight of both types of birth, I really feel it's best not to try and control too much, but go with what the babies and you need most at the time.

If you go with what is necessary as opposed to a personal agenda, and try to condition your mind to be open to either, the complications you worry about may not crop up as much as a result IYSWIM?

E.g. I was determined to have a VB with my son who was malpositioned with a massive head, and had horrible tears when I should have accepted the C/S offered at the time. My second baby who had to be a c/s as a result, turned out to be a tiddler - I wished I was having a VBAC with her instead.

Hope that makes sense!?! p.s. My C/S baby's lungs are just fine, and the milk and bond were instant, and wonderful...
