I considered that but this one would be a bit of a stretch!

Possibly not that much of a stretch if the OP started different threads under different user names and slowly gathered up a picture of some posters.

Iin - that's double i and n rather than "Lin". Not a great name! DD would have been "has" - also not a great name!

Agreed. The other possibility is someone trying to confirm the identity of a MNetter they know IRL.

I always wonder if this is a bot way to guess peoples passwords and memorable information for online banking! 😆

Did think the same..been a few threads recently with year of birth also.

I'm amazed how many of these are pronounceable. I thought they would all be in the style of Lth / Rmh etc 😅 who knew so many names end in a vowel + consonant.

Don’t most internet banking apps use face recognition these days?

You could (eventually) get into my Farmer Gracy account with my son’s middle name, but all you’d be able to do is mess up my wishlists and sent me some plants (you’d have to pay for them yourself, I use google pay). Pretty much everything else is a random password.

No it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. It's all about reducing the number of guesses to a workable quantity. Especially when you combine it with "your drag queen name is the street you grew up with and your first pet" type question, or "what was number 1 in your birth month". Cross referencing these questions can get you in to most people's accounts.

I think it’s more for all sorts of other types of social engineering scams, pretending to be your son needing money or what have you. The sorts of things that we all believe we’d never fall for but they catch you at a weak moment.

I don’t know, but I’m happy to confirm that my father’s name starts with J.
