Girls names starting with M that have a nickname

Hi all, my sister is due soon and I'd like to help her find a name for her second daughter. Her and her husband, and his father and late mother all have names starting with M. Her first daughter's name is Matilda (always called Tilly).

She had decided on Grace but is now not totally sure (she hadn't been able to find an M name she liked). The middle name will be Elena (our grandmother's name). Last name starts with T and has 2 syllables.

If the name can have a nickname that does not start with M this would be a bonus.

Echo pp Margaret nn Peggy is an underused classic and goes gorgeously with sibling name

wowfudge · 26/09/2020 07:06

Just reminds me of Peggy Mitchell and many, many women of my granny's generation. I wouldn't.

I gave her a short list of suggestions from here that I liked. She likes Michaela but unfortunately BIL isn't a fan. I really like Maxine - sounds spunky and independent - but that is the name of a BIL ex so no go :( Another option they're leaning towards is Elena Frances which I quite like. Nn Ellie. If they do call her that, it will be funny if she prefers Frances when she is older and gets called Frankie, as sister has named every pet she has ever had Frankie (including her current cat which 2 yr old niece only calls kitty cat so it is name on paper only). I do kind of hope they find an M name they agree on as I wonder if the kid will feel left out of the family if everyone has M except for her. Well she is 3 days overdue now so I will find out what they agree on soon enough!
